Monster Manual 2

Btw, I still think I like ToH better, even though I have reasonable certainty that MM2, will do some good conversions on some d20 monsters I know about. Or at least have a theory about! ;)

You're talking about two books that haven't come out yet, right? Whats the point in that?

I know this is the 'net and people are supposed to do that, and all, but... How in the name of Einstein can you compare two books that you haven't seen?

Uhm cause I read the ones in ToH already. I haven't seen the ones in MM2, true, but I have seen the majority for ToH either on Scott's site and/or in postings for the ToH BB.

Any support ... or does psionic monsters get ignored again?

The ToH does NOT ignore psionics. We even have some "psionic only" monsters. Note the Psionic Elementals listed in the Table of Contents.

Also several others are contained therein as well. We didn't forget about the psionic people! :D

EDIT: And BTW, the monsters in the book that do have psionics are given a layout like the monsters in the PsiHB (i.e., their psionic entry includes attack and defense modes, powers from the PsiHB, etc.) Psionic monsters also have psionic feats and skills.

But- in case you don't have the PsiHB or dont use psionics, we included a default entry at the end of the monster listing for psionics based on the way the MM uses them (see the Couatl or Mind Flayer for example).

Aquan encounters? 95%? Playing on Water World are we?

"Beneath the Pinnacles of Azor'alq" (BPAA), is a 3e D&D World of Greyhawk message-based game (Play-by-Post) set beneath the surface of the Dramidj Ocean. The campaign, which uses the "core rules of 3e, select supplements from 2e, and the heart of 1e", is designed for those interested in participating in a work of coauthored interactive fiction.

I have around 200 original beasties of my own, most of which are aquatic, that I terrorize my PCs with. ;)

I'm sorry I found this very funny (remeber I'm laughing towards you not at you! ;) ). Its like saying there was a monster called the uyyxjr@go that was based on the monster txyraetdh. That's basically what both those names mean to me. In the Creature Collection 2 they had some great monster names like the Blood Kraken or the Wickerman (scared the heck out of my players with that one!). I'd love to see more names like that!

Except that the penanggalan is a creature drawn from real world folklore. The ixitxachitl is also one of my favorite creatures. It's got a nice exotic Weird Tales era feel to it.

I must say that I'm not too fond of the Creature Collection 1 and 2 creatures. They don't have the right "ambience" for me. Perhaps most of them feel to modern for me. I don't know how else to describe it. I don't mind strange names at all. The more Lovecraftian, the better!

Well hopefully you will find the Tome of Horrors most useful. And hopefully all the new monsters (and converted ones as well) capture the "ambience" you desire. If not, well I have no idea then. :D

MoF, MM2, and TOH

My local gaming shop informed me that Monsters of Faerun is out of print. Does anyone know if this will be included in MM2? I expect that if it is, and that portion isn't free, several people are going to be ticked that they have to buy MoF again to get the new MM2 content.

As for TOH, I think it is cool that the monsters are under the OGL (probably more by WotC mandates on DND 1e than by anything). This way, module/adventure writers can reproduce the stat block and abilities for the creatures in their products without requiring players and DMs to own the source material.

Requiring extra source material is never done because it limits a publisher's market. With the OGL monsters in ToH, we will see more adventures with less repetative monsters in them since the source material requirement is lifted by the nature of the OGL.

I wish other publishers did the same for a subset (if not all) of their spells, feats, items, etc.

Cheers,
/ds

Oh, don't worry about that. I'm a card carrying member of the Fiend Folio is the Best Monster Book Ever Club. There are all of what, three of us maybe? :)

Count me in as a huge FF supporter! Many of my favorite monsters are in there (gith, slaadi, sons of Kyuss, death knights, hook horrors, etc...)
