Most interesting Epic Character?

The Souljourner

First Post
I'm going to be starting in a campaign where we begin at 20th level and go epic. I was wondering what people think would be the most interesting and fun epic character. I have several ideas, including the dwarven defender I've talked about elsewhere here, but recently I've been thinking about other ideas as well. Any thoughts? Characters you've been itching to play at epic levels?

I like the idea of an epic level paladin, simply because it's such a cool concept - being essentially the right hand of a god... perhaps not the most powerful class, but a really cool one... you can't beat positive energy aura for plain old coolness factor.

So, bring on your ideas. I'd love to hear what you guys can dream up.

Actually, an Epic Paladin is probably the most powerful melee character you can have in an epic campaign.

Start with a Holy Avenger.

Feats: Power Attack, Divine Might, Weapon Focus Longsword, Improved Critical Longsword, Power Critical Longsword, Extra Smiting x 3

epic feats: Great Smiting (only epic feat you need)
If you take Great Smiting say 3 times (level 24 or 25), each smite will do 100 points of smite damage in addition to your normal damage. And you'll be able to smite evil four times a day thanks to Extra Smiting.

And thanks to power critical, one of those smites is an automatic critical for 200+ points of smite damage.

If you reach level 25 of paladin or level 20 paladin and level 5 Divine Champion (FRCS) then you'll have the BAB pre-req to take the Divine Emissary prestige class and get a further two more Smites per day at 27th character level. If you take the Divine Champion PrC you can add Divine Wrath and get a further +3 to attack and damage, and if your god grants access to the Destruction domain, you can gain that domain and its Smite power as well at the 1st level of Divine Emissary.

Has there been any official word on how many Smite attacks you would actually get per day? And would Smite Evil stack with the Destruction domain Smite?

A high level Monk would be cool, especially with feats like Deflect Anything, or Lawful Strike.

If you get Dragon, check out the Perfect One PrC in the Epic issue, great super-Monk PrC.

Also, you could use some ECL monsters and/or templates to make some cool Epic characters.

Half-Elementals, Half-Celestials, Shades, Wood Elementals ...

Hmm. A Wood Elemental Human Druid. Spiffy.

epic fighter/forsaker taking only 10 levels in fighter. maybe even going for that juggernaut PrC in the ELH after a bunch more of forsaker levels.

Epic forsaker better get a bonus epic feat every level in addition to progression of forsaker abilities to keep up. Not being able to use any travel magic makes it hard to get off the prime material not to mention being unable to use true ressurection which is assumed at epic levels and he should get an epic attribute point increase at every level not that inherent bonus stuff.

Epic Templar is the way to go over epic paladin. You get DR +1/- every 3 levels, an extra smite every 5 levels in addition to your bonus feat every 3 levels. You are giving up turning and your mount but you are getting full spellcasting progression at least. You are getting more mileage out of your greater smiting with your free smites.

An Epic Paladin can take the Epic Leadership feat (it's before the skills in the ELH, a very strange place). This would allow him to take a somewhat powerful dragon as a mount.
