Movies that take you back.

Great choices! Here are three more (32)

a) Monty Python and the Holy Grail
b) The Princess Bride

If you don't know all the lines to these two, you need to turn in your gamer card. :)

c) The Thing (John Carpenter version 1982, NOT the 1950's version). It had great special effects for its time, and was just well done, and I saw it when I was a little kid and my best friend, who had seen it already, knew JUST when to scare me by attacking me while the movie was on a certain scene. Great times (that bastard! :) ).
Argh! I can't believe that I forgot to include The Princess Bride on my list. That movie really takes me back, especially the opening scene where Fred Savage is playing Hardball on a Commodore 64.

Goonies: Went and saw it with a group of friends.

Empire Strikes Back:
Dad and Son bonding

ET: Drive In Theatre

Conan the Barbarian: This and Excalibur were the two movies my best friends older brother would watch everytime he came over to watch the house while the parents were away...EVERYTIME!

Excalibur: Read Above.

Dragonslayer: Favorite movie as a kid.

I saw these as a child so it counts! (I'm fifteen)

Labyrinth: I loved this, it might have been the first fantasy thing (let alone film) I ever saw. And I still like it very much...

Rats Of NIMH: I don't know why I liked this film (I did), now when I look at it it seems odd. Plus I prefer the book.

Transformers: The movie Dear god, I eat, slept, breathed, slept and lived them.

Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure: Woah.

The Princess bride: Another milestone in becoming a gamer. The film is awesome, go se it. Go!

All the usual suspects (SW trilogy, Indy, etc.), plus:

Princess Bride was the first film I ever reviewed, in my school paper in 5th grade. I recommended it.

Toy Soldiers (with Sean Astin and Wil Wheaton) was the first R-rated movie I ever saw without my parents, and for some reason that still sticks with me.

My mom took me to see Spinal Tap when I was 5 and it warped me forever. I still watch that at least once a year.

Searching for Bobby Fischer was the first movie I ever took a date to. Word to the wise: movies about chess will NOT get you to 2nd base.

Good list so far.

I turn the big 3-0 in two days (8-21) and I'm going to try for movies that came out before I went to high school and that I saw in the theater.

How about:

The Rocky Movies - can't believe nobody mentioned these yet.

Krull - Sci-Fi and swords.

Popeye - Yup, the Robin Williams flick.

The Natural - Classic Americana.

Pete's Dragon - I love dragons.

The Last Starfighter - Check out the CG in that one.

The Jungle Book - Most Disney flicks predate me but they still take me back.
Heck, I remember when Disney used to release them every couple of years.

That's all I have right now, back to work.

All the Ray Harryhausen movies; Jason and the Argonauts, 7th Voyage of Sinbad, Golden Voyage of Sinbad. Loved this movies as a kid!

Godzilla and the rest of the eary Godzilla movies. I remember watching Godzilla on a saturday afternoon as a kid! Great stuff! Godzilla vs Monster Zero is my favorite of the series

The Abominable Dr. Phibes and Dr. Phibes Rises Again! Great campy horror with Vincent Price!

The British Hammer horror movies with Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee. Dracula and Frankenstein done the british way with blood, sex, and great acting!

Good call. Rocky IV always takes me back, especially the scenes where Rocky is training in Siberia and the actual fight between Rocky and Ivan Drago. I watched that movie many times during my younger years. :)

Trilogy of Terror - Creepy little Zuni fetish doll running amok (I still hate dolls to this day)

Someone else who remembers that crazy tiki doll. I can still see Karen Black all bloody throwing that doll into the oven while it was still waving the butcher knife at her.

Age 42.

My additions to the list.

Kelly's Heroes - A war movie about a bank heist. That just screams PC group to me.
Silverado - Western adventure of four guys who meet on the road.
7 Faces of Dr Lao - Tony Randal in all sorts of crazy guises.

Wizards

*edit* Age 42

*second edit* I hate dolls, now, too.

*third edit* And, yes. Jennifer Connelly is hot. Very hot, indeed.
