For Anubis you could simply slant him towards self-interested NE as opposed to and active spiteful NE.

I think it's a mistake to make the characters "stretch" to accommodate a loose guideline, Krusty. Why not just make Set the only Evil member, and have him as a Greater God?

I like to have an intermediate god of each alignment in every Pantheon.

To me, any pantheon will try to cover as many worshippers as possible. Thus there will be a representative of each alignment.

The second point of why 'stretch' characters in this manner seems to imply that there is only one interpretation of each god and secondly that these interpretations are not only known, but can readily be pidgeon-holed. That simply isn't the case.

My primary goal is to layout a pantheon in terms that will be most entertaining and interesting to gamers, mythological accuracy is only of secondary importance.

'Death' is NE in the UKU, Anubis could be NE too if you have a death~evil view on alignments and the relationship between + and - energy. Get over yourself.

Get over myself??? Have you lost your mind??? Not all death gods are evil you sanctimonious jerk. I was simply stating that I take offense to something which I have every right taking offense to. How dare you imply that its because Im an egotistical ass. If anyone needs to get over themselves its definitely you. Since when do people on Enworld try to censor people who take offense to having their religious beliefs insulted. As a human being I have every right to be offended, especially after you spout off this blatantly rude BS that was not intended as humor.

Anubis is definitely NOT evil.

I'm sure he means well.

I actually take offense to that for him. Especially so since I live with someone who actually worships Anubis.

From anyone else that comment might have surprised me.

In truth Anubis would be more likely to be Lawful Neutral. He stepped down from his position and gave it to Osiris. Not because Osiris kicked his butt, but because Osiris was the rightful ruler. It was simply his place.

Yes but all that hanging with the undead has made him bitter and twisted.

Anubis is not evil, but he is certainly a guy without pity for lawbreakers. Darkness and Death are scary but not evil.

Have you all forgotten Apep/Apophis?

Apep would be the Cosmic Umbilical of the Egyptian Pantheon.

The reason there are so few evil Egyptian gods is because most Egyptian gods are some form of neutral, particularly lawful neutral.

...and thats no fun at all.

Set would certainly be Chaotic Evil and probably either a Greater God or an Elder God with a slew of treacherous abilities.

If he was an Elder God he would just seize the throne. I think he works best as a powerful Intermediate Deity.

Sekmet could be declared evil since Sekmet is the dark side of Bast.

Both Lesser Goddesses.

Lets take a look at the (slightly tweaked) list.

You might want to think about toning this divine comedy down a bit before you get a suspension.

I think your confusion stems from the fact that I am detailing a make-believe Anubis, not the (metaphysically) real one. So unless you are going to get equally upset by my claim that your room-mate's chosen deity is only 66th-level. I suggest you stifle your anger and let it go.

If not you might want to have your roommate sue the makers of Stargate SG1 and Palladium Books, both of whom portray Anubis as a villain.

Once those court cases have been resolved in favour of your roommate, I will indeed change Anubis alignment from Neutral Evil to Lawful Neutral.

However, until then, put a cork in it.

You'll also find that when I detail Pantheons I usually propose an exact opposite.

So you might have both a Norse (Odin) and a Germanic (Wotan) pantheon. One might be good, the other evil.

Greek vs. Roman
Celtic (Irish) vs. Celtic (Welsh)
Mayan vs. Aztec

etc.

So just because one Anubis is Neutral Evil, theres no reason why there couldn't be an Anubis of another alignment.

This makes sense; my only concern is that it basically makes every pantheon interchangeable. Essentially, if the same formula is followed for each pantheon regarding number of gods, their ranks, and their alignments, then it becomes just a matter of changing names and swapping portfolios. Not all pantheons are equal, after all, and there's a reason why some are more popular (in the sense of an "open" multiverse) than others.

Of course, given how well Surtur was written, if you can make each of the deities that interesting, then it might not matter.
