New Wave (The Company) Sucks

Aha, i had endured most of those things, orders that are sent to diffderent packages, duplicated orders....

All by all, i won't recomend to buy Newswave.org, actually i wouldn't never do it again.

I am glad I saw this thread. I ordered from them and had no issues, but they will not get any of my future business. Thank you for all of the honest responces.

BTW, I thought it was illeagle to charge for any item before it ships. Is this true or am I mistaken?

Try Discount Hobby, if you're just looking for minis. Lots of minis, good prices, quick delivery, excellent customer service. They have all their merchandise in stock, and they have photos of all their minis online, so you can see what you're buying before you buy it.

However, they apparently had some supply problems with WotC, and so don't carry WotC merchandise anymore... Not that that's all bad.

I prefer Discount for my 'domestic orders': Reaper, GW, WotC, and anyone else I can find in most stores.

Plus a few exotics lines they have exclusive.

But they don't carry (or didn't carry last I looked) some of the really hot lines:

Celtos
Confrontation
Assassin.
Excalibur.

I have actually ordered some of those direct from their European makers. And gotten my stuff before a New Wave order from the same brand that I'd placed months beforehand.

Assassin in particular was a very good experience.

It's a real 'Garage Operation' of a guy in Germany. :) Given the cost of the shipping I ordered the bulk of his line in a split order between myself and another gamer.

The minidealer discussion group on yahoo has a database of vendors:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/minidealerdiscussion/database?method=reportRows&tbl=2

Not many are listed there, but those that are show what they carry.

Even for some of the most exotic lines, there are ways to avoid New Wave.

They still owe me one figure from over a year ago...

This is pretty much true. I'm not sure what the legal deadline is, but pretty much you can't be charged unless it's shipped (there may be a few days grace period, but if there is I think it's less than a week). For details, go to the minidealerdiscussion yahoo group and ask about New Wave. :D

Hey Cameltoe: You remember Ed? The huge guy who played the elf? He orders from a distributor and places an order for him and all his buddies about once a month. I order many of my minis through him, standard rate is 40% off, no tax or shipping. I'm placing an order monday or tuesday for Reaper minis for RttToEE, lemme know if you want anything as well. He also gets D&D minis and most Chainmail, no GW though.

Thanks guys! I really appreciate the plugs. At least you all know where to find me as I post frequently here and Nutkinland. :D

Lately, with the number of gaming releases every week it's been a little harder to keep up than a year ago. Did you all know that in about 2 months there's been something like 20 hardcover releases with 90% being D20 related? It's been nuts to say the least.

Newwave's problems are probably two fold:
One, they discount too much. Once you start down the path of discounting you have to make it up in bulk sales. The percentage you're taking off is just that much more that is used for overhead or money to pre-order more product. The more you discount the less you have to work with. If there is anything that will kill your business in rapid succession it's massive discounting (25%+).

Two, they're ordering from unreliable sources. Judging from the selection Newwave ordered a lot of minis from Europe. What can Newwave do if they don't deliver? Nothing, because NW is in the US. Where as with Reaper I can go down to the companies' address and pick up my stuff directly. I know exactly what the delay is if there is one and I can be in constant communication.

I won't go into the massive discounting debate again because frankly there are people who think it's me just being cheap but the reality is I've seen what it does to the "industry" and retailers who do it. Massive discounters burn bright and burn out fast.
