I'm probably going to get involved in a few short 4e games but hopefully my group won't switch totally until there's more content available. I want to keep my duskblade :)

The plan for our group at last conversation is to get the books, continue playing between the FR and Planescape games we're running now until July, and then start play. Based on the fact that there will will be most of the Eberron races available between the MM and the PHB, I'm probably going to run an Eberron game in classic Raiders of the Lost Ark style, with high action and lots of exotic locales and battlefields.

I didn't really like the options - I ended up choosing 3 that sort of approximated what was happening between them.

Campaign I run - finishing up in 3.5. Probably 2 years left.
Campaign I play in - staying 3.5 until the FR stuff is out (so we don't have the books to convert yet). Will 99% likely eventually convert to 4e, but that's many months off.
New mini-campaign I'm about to start running - 4e
Casual rotating-players game just starting up at my FLGS - 4e

Cheers,

I stopped running 3rd edition a few years back and I've moved recently, but I'm looking forward to starting up a 4th edition campaign as soon as I can put a new group together! I already unloaded all but a small handful of my 3rd edition stuff at Half-Price Books.

My group? We'll be continuing our homebrew horror campaign. Who knows what'll be up next. I think someone mentioned running a D&D3.5 game. I'm thinking about various ultralight systems for maybe a pulp sci-fi something.

No doubt we'll give D&D 4e a try sometime, but nothing "on the schedule" so far.

In other words, business as usual.

My advice: Don't bother trying to convert a campaign. For everytime it works there are probably nine times it didn't. What's the point? Finish the campaign in the system you started with.

Unless it is one of those really long-term campaigns. Even then, though, I think it's probably best to change system very little.

So, I'm running a PbP game and the topic of whether to convert came up. It seems not feasible to convert given that the party includes a bard, barbarian and sorcerer. So, I'm curious what others plan to do.

This is a poll.

Isn't Necromancer games bringing out an Advanced Player's guide in mid-late August with the Barbarian, Bard and Necromancer classes for 4th?

You could always wait for that to convert.

My games are continuing as 3e. I may adopt some individual things from Pathfinder and 4e but essentially it will still be houseruled 3e.

Individual bits like diagonal movement and charging are elements that I've heard good things about and could easily be houseruled into 3e. Zombies popping up after dying sounds good too.

The no online srd rules for 4e though makes running a pbp game in 3e much more atractive looking right now.

4e would have to be spectacularly easy to learn, DM, run during a game, and convert other material to for me to consider switching to a new system from the one I am comfortable with, enjoy, and have tons of stuff for.

I am getting the 4e DMG as a late birthday gift so we will see if it knocks my socks off and gets me to say I want to run it. I doubt it currently though.

Run Pokethulhu!

No seriously. Our group plays a Friday night game and this week we are wrapping up details on one arc. Our DM wanted a short break to prepare for the next arc and asked if I would run playtests of the Pokethulhu event I am running at Gen Con. So on June 6th our group will be switching to Pokethulhu. Of course after that we will be continuing our 3.5 Ptolus campaign.
