Now THIS is what I call home security!

Yes, because that would be a good idea...

No Doubt!

Kzach You do realize that in many states or according to many local laws (city, county, etc.), rigging traps to protect your home or property varies from making you civilly liable for any damages to completely illegal (leading to prosecution)...?

It's almost universally a very, very, bad idea.:erm:

Never mind prosecution; what happens when the wrong person comes in without remembering to disarm the weapon? And is the stupid decision of a punk kid out to steal your TV really worthy of death?

If you install this kind of thing, it's all on you, and you'd be served right if you do go to jail for it.

Being that the control software is open-source, anyone with a bit of engineering knowledge could easily rig this with a real gun :D

And what happens when this device shoots two firemen who were trying to get your kid out of the house during a house fire?

Even the paintball version could get one in serious trouble. Paintballs HURT! And without proper safety gear can do some damage.

How would you like to be civilly liable (let alone criminally responsible) for blinding some kid that jumped in your backyard to get his ball...

I remember reading a news report of a "survival enthusiast" who had rigged his entire living area inside and out with all kinds of traps- some non-lethal, some very lethal- and camera systems.

Turns out, he was a sleepwalker...went for a stroll one night to get a snack from the fridge. Successfully got from his bedroom to the kitchen & got some food- all while sleeping- and negotiated his way into his den to eat it.

Whereupon he died to a pair of triggered shotgun blasts when he sat on his couch...

Nott questioning what you heard, but... that sounds... somewhat apocryphal.

I can understand trapping windows and doors, the ground outside, passages within the home. A little overdone, perhaps, but okay, tactically relevant, at least.

But trapping your couch? Lethally? Because home invaders are going to sit down for a rest after evading all your other traps?

Heh, who cares about the law?! This is solely about a cool technology. Turrets have been a staple of SF forever and now they're essentially a reality.

But if you want to be serious, then consider all the Zombie Apocalypse applications!
