D&D 5E (2014) (OOC) Vault of the Dracolich 5E (Full)

So, I need a ruling on a minor spell:

Prestidigitation can clean soiled clothing or items. It can also *warm* stuff. But it doesn't say anything about drying clothes that are wet. Can it do that (maybe by comboing the 2)?

I hope it's okay for a non-player to jump in here: this is a hobby horse of mine. The problem of Prestidigitation is that it's an Illusion school spell, not a transmutation. Things don't actually get clean, they just seem clean.

Prestidigitation is magic Febreeze.

Now I think the "illusion" school is just wrong for the spell -- the majority of effects are better understood as transmutation. But there you go -- Yes, you can create an illusion that the clothes are dry.

:D

I'd disagree with that. The book says it can clean or soil cloths. Not that they seem clean or soiled.

You are very welcome to. It's always fun to know who might be lurking.

That said, I'm going to overrule you, not because I don't agree with your logic: That's a very interesting reading of the spell. That said, I don't mind the spell going beyond that, so I'm going to rule, YES.

@Ancalagon: Yes, you can dry off with Prestidigitation. That said, I can't agree with it being thought of as "<ping> I'm dry!" I think it would take some effort (and perhaps multiple castings - ie more than one round) to fully dry off. Under normal circumstances, this timing doesn't matter: It's just RP.

I agree.
We should have a short rest. Here at the switchback or back at camp? It would be more dangerous here at the switchback but getting the horses and wagon back to camp seems difficult and time consuming.
I think Corrah can take the prisoners back to camp. Killing them after their surrender seems wrong — it's plain murder — which my character would not do. If Corrah would like to slit their throats as soon as she is out of sight, that's up to her.

My suggestion is to rest here at the switchback, bandage our wounds (roll HD) and prepare our disguises. And formulate a plan. The uninsured can keep watch. Hopefully, no search party is sent out from the temple.

Thanks - and I don't mind this taking a bit of time, it still will be way faster than drying normally which would take hours. And I can tell you from personal experience that underground caverns (unless you go very deep) are quite cold, so staying dry is important :)
