OotS 408...

I think we might finally find out whether it is the claimed mark of justice or just an arcane mark with a bluff. I believe it is the latter.

Death isn't actually permanent when you are the ruler of a City of Paladins and Clerics. Maybe he was thinking they would ressurect Shojo and let him decide on what to do with Miko.

The strip is kind of in a weird place. Not only is it a story, and thus subject to all sorts of story concerns, it is also a story about D&D and is subject to all the D&D concerns. Some of those D&D concerns are also player concerns. Even if the order's players are just in our imagination, I think they inform a lot of our comments. In short, if a particular strip seems less interesting from one of those angles, try looking at it from another.

Also, do remember that Miko has taken on multiple members of the Order by herself. From the track record, it would seem like Roy wouldn't be so much killing Miko as he is roughing her up.

Really, I'd save the comments on what is and isn't the right thing to do in this, or debate paladin issues, and enjoy the possibilty. What if she repents? What if she doesn't? What if she goes blackguard? What if she tries to defeat the enemy on her own? What if she mellows out after years of therapy and marries Roy? "Kids, let me tell you about how I met your mother..."

Great pair of strips! The jokes were fantastic.

Roy was being a dick and showing off. But that may be what his player felt like doing. I could see myself doing that.

What's amusing is Belkar may actually get a redemption point or two -- he looks like he's seriously considering risking some self-sacrifice in order to follow Roy's orders and stop the insane fallen paladin.

On a side note, I think Roy's sword is some kind of Holy. It's supposed to harm Undead, and it flashed for both Sabine and Miko. One of whom we know is evil, and the other... we know ain't exactly good.

In somewhat offtopic post...
Miko could mean "medium, sorceress, shrine maiden" or
child of the emperor, a maiden consecrated to the gods"
Miyazaki either means "promontory princess" or "honorable child"
The kanji for Miyazaki is 宮嵜
The kanji for Miko is 御子
Though dont qoute me on this, i am neither japanese nor do i understand it.
Whetver you think Rich put any thought into this is up to you.

Roy's sword sometimes flashes green. This green flash is apparently more harmful to undead. But that doesn't mean that the sword's flash is in any way connected to what it's hitting.

Order of the Stick,
Paladin class feature: they
are not related.

Pain and doubt: trouble
when they appear, but double
when they disappear.
