[OT] 2002 World Cup, part 2

Brazil wins 2-1 over England, despite being down a man for most of the second half. A little surpising to me. Brazil had not been impressive earlier on but their defense came through when it needed to. England had been playing well before this, but they just could not get many good shots, even when up a man.

Yes, Brazil deserved to win - can't argue with that. We gave away a soft goal and they played keep-ball, and when England did have the ball they couldn't make much of it - lost the ball too easily, especially Scholes, and the quality of the balls into the box was inadequate.

Nevertheless, it was better than we could have expected when Keegan left, when we were really not expecting even to qualify for the finals... but I can't help feeling it was a huge missed opportunity, with the tournament having become so open. Here's hoping for a Brazil v South Korea final - that should be fun :D

Oh, and the sending off of Ronaldiho was a disgrace. That referee is a liability.

I would talk about England's performance in the second half, but the words I want to use would get me banned from the boards.

*insert muffled swearing here*

To fly so high against Argentina and Denmark (and Germany in the qualifiers!) and then drop so low against a team we could have beaten....*more indecipherable swearing*

Hey hum. Bring on Portugal 2004!:D

&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp 1-0, USA loses to Germany... and thus end's the general American populace's interest in the U.S. National Team, and with soccer in general. :(

I caught the last ten minutes of USA-Germany. 1-0 Germany, unfortunately.

Completely uninformed predictions for the rest of the tournament.

Turkey/Senegal - doesn't matter; either will lose to Brazil.
Spain 2 South Korea 1

Semifinals...

Brazil 3 Turkey/Senegal 1
Germany 1 Spain 0

Final
Germany 1 Brazil 0

Prediction: Germany will be the worst team EVER to reach the final.

Holy crap! They got outplayed by us (the USA) and still won... like against Paraguay. I am not so sure that Spain is as good as they say they are here in Germany--and if Korea won against Spain it would blow my mind to even consider that they might reach the final. They play well, but they have already achieved more than we can expect.

BRAZIL !!! UHU !!!

God Save Our Not so GRACIOUS TEAM !!

Hey Morrus... what a bad showing from England... to many Mohicans and some lack of football... Brazil was beatable...

(THAT MEXICAN FOOL OF A REFEREE SHOULD BE SENT BACK TO WHATEVER BACKWATER HOLE HE CAME FROM !! )

The USA did outchance and out-effort Germany today, but Kahn was very, very good in goal and the Germans converted one of their opportunities and the Americans did not.

I'm very proud of Team USA's effort and performance (Agoos aside), and they certainly could have won this morning's match. And despite the fact that Goodsport is right for the most part, and my favorite teams have been eliminated, I will continue to watch the World Cup through its conclusion.

I think I'll pull for Senegal and South Korea...then again, I'm likely to root for anyone other than Germany or Brazil :D!
