Well Italy does have a tradition of doing badly in the beggining of those World Cups they ended up in the Semi or even Finals...

KOREA!

Quite a game Korea! Their goalie really let them off the hook. Will be interesting to see what happens against Germany. Watched it with the Korean community here. Pretty amazing especially with the penalty shootout.

Korea really is a surprise. And seeing on TV how the population celebrates the victory, I am really happy for them too.
I think it will be hard for the German team, but fortunately we have Kahn...

Oh, and regarding the general assessment on how Germany played, you have to take into consideration that it is a rather young team, and a lot of players are still developing. Here in Germany, nobody considers the German team to be strong. The press here is as surprised about them making it that far as anyone else. I, for instance, expected them to play even worse.

I wouldn't say Germany didn't deserve getting this far. Paraguay and the US weren't that weak as some would have thought. After all, the US did smash Portugal, one of the runner ups for the title. If there is one thing this tournament has shown, then it is that the "upstarts" (Like the US, Korea, Senegal, etc). aren't that much inferior to the Dinosaurs (England, Italy, Germany, Brazil, etc.) anymore.

But really, I haven't seen any of the classical teams playing any beautiful soccer during this tournament- look at Brazil. You may scold Germany for the lack of style, but at least I can defend those players by saying that they are already giving their best. The brazilian players, though, play arrogantly and haughtily, even though they could do much better. And of course the dirty tricks played against the Turks do not exactly make me fall in love with people like Rivaldo. (Who is not even admitting his unfairness).
So, of all the teams in the final, the one I want the least to win the cup is Brazil.

Oh, and someone mentioned England trashing Germany in the qualification... While I remember it painfully, I would like to point out that Germany won the first of the two games in Wembley 1-0. So, even though the 5-1 of the English team was well deserved and impressive, at least both teams won once.

Anyway, the German team isn't playing so hot, but it was the same in 1986, where me made it to the final. And like in 86 we got a bunch of young players who are still developing... So maybe we will have a strong German team in 2006 again, like we had in 1990. One could at least wish.

Apart from that, I never quite understood the English need to verbally bash German soccer. After all, the two best games I watched were Germany vs. England:

Semi Finals in Italy 1990 Germany vs. England (Germany won after penalty shooting) and the semi final in England 1996 again England vs. Germany (which again went into penalty, which the German team won...)...

Oh, hold on. Now I am getting why you don't like us... :p

Go Corea GO!!!

That was a close match, as it could've went either way. Spain put up a tough fight, but none the same, Corea came out victorious. Mayhaps, the country to take home the Golden Cup* is Corea?!?

*Statistically, the host country wins the Cup 40% of the time.

wrong thread, sorry

Also, I would like to add, that it is not my intention to bash the Brazilian team, earlier.
I probably just expected much more from a team with players like that.

Dont worry Lars... what you said about the Brazilian team is basically correct... we do see our players as being over snobbish sometimes. They are multi millionairs already and maybe not as enthusiastic of defending their country as they should be. One of the reasons we left Romario behind...

As for the German team I thought they were old players ! Well Brazil is playing far from what they should and the Germans as well. In general only the newbie teams of senegal, turkey and korea are giving their guts for the game.

Rashak, they are in fact pretty young. And you know, even though I am loyal to the German team, there is a part of me that wishes all the best for Turkey or South Korea. I think they deserve it more then Germany or Brazil.
Even though, a match Germany vs. Brazil would be the first match between the two most succesfull soccer teams. Germany wouldn't stand a chance, of course, but when you look at the stats, it would be overdue. After all, Brazil won more games in the world cup then any other team, and Germany comes second...
