[OT] Book-Movie tie-ins...?

A bit off topic, but I've been racking my brains for anything I can think of and haven't came up with much, so I figure I'll appeal to the vaunted wisdom of the Boards. :) My little sister's got a school project where she needs to read a book and then watch the movie - neither of which she can have already read/viewed. Little kid - sixth grade - and she'd like to read a fantasy book. Only things I can come up with are Lloyd Alexander's Black Cauldron (even considering how bad the Disney adaptation was,) but she's already seen it; Harry Potter's the other obvious thing, but she's read those... any kid fantasy I'm forgetting?

The Hobbit, which had a pretty decent animated movie.

Or, of course, the Princess Bride. My favorite book ever.

Nice suggestions, guys - thanks. I know she's seen The Princess Bride, 'cause I showed her that one myself. I'm not sure about the Hobbit (Lord of the Rings, she's seen, and'll probably be reading soon... the Hobbit? Not sure. I'll check.) And the Secret of Nymh - gads, I loved that series as a kid. Thanks for the reminder; that oughta be a good choice.... thanks again. :)

A Wrinkle in Time - just had a mini-series out this year, but I didn't see it.

Gulliver's Travels - mini series a few years ago, available on video/dvd

Le Morte d'Arthur / Excalibur - book Thomas Malory; movie by John Boorman

Something Wicked This Way Comes

The Witches of Eastwick - well, maybe not, depending on age....

How could I forget....

The Phantom Tollbooth - the movie was directed by Chuck Jones. I never saw it, but I was in a play version of the book in elementary school. :)

Isn't it NIMH?

Sanackranib, I am glad you did add an "o" to that title cause I don't think that would be a movie fit for kids! hahaha

Obviously it's been a while since I saw the kiddie films, lol
at least you knew what movie I was refering to, unless there is a "secret of nymph-o book".

This ain't fantasy but how about Little Women?

I know there is a book and I know there is a movie with Wynona Ryder in it out there to.

Also To Kill a Mockingbird, A Christmas Carol, a lot of and books by Stephen King. Same with Shakespere stuff.

Hope that helps.
