At this point in my "separated" existance I'd rather cut off my hand, attach a chainsaw and shoot people with my boom stick then go through the bull:):):):):) of dating again.

Actually, Ash didn't cut off his hand until Evil Dead 2.

Huh?

Seeing as how Evil Dead 2 is just a remake of the original Evil Dead I was under the impression he lost his hand in both of them. But its been a few years since I saw eiter...

Best of luck Midnight give Al a grope for me :D

Classy :D

So, here I am, Thursday night, and I'm sitting at home. I'm definitely too sick to go out. Hell, I was too sick to drive home when I left work early today. I'm a wreck.

Talked to her on the phone, she seemed sorry to hear that I wasn't coming along... which is good. I've set up the rain check for Saturday during the day, and/or Monday after work. I've got no idea of what we're going to do. I need to become more interesting than just dinner and a movie. Arrgh.

DR M.

You know what, if this girl like you, you don't need to talk about anything important. Be your charming self and you will do just fine.

Take care of that flu or you won't be ready for Saturday. You might need the energy. :D

I admit that I only read the first page of this lovely thread, but I believe that if you're not comfortable being honest with a person, you shouldn't bother being friends with them. If a friend or potential girlfriend wants to do something that you're uncomfortable with, say so, and explain why. If they're worth having as a friend, they'll understand your nervousness (but probably try to convince you that it won't be that bad). If nothing else, being pent up and nervous is a bad thing. Why bother dating someone if you're always going to be uncomfortable around her?

Be yourself. That doesn't just mean, 'Be casual,' it means, 'Don't try to be someone you're not or hide your real feelings.' With casual acquaintances or coworkers, sure, be polite and filled with etiquette, but most people who would make good friends are considerate enough to know that we've all been in uncomfortable situations.

Now, to keep reading.

Here are some suggestions on Non-dinner and a movie stuff:

Go to a museum: art, natural history, planetarium, hell go to a hands on type science one.

Go for a walk in a scenic park, a horse drawn carrige ride, a boat ride, or some such thing.

How about just a quite evening at your (or her place) with home cooked dinner, listening to some music, watching favorite movies.

If you have compatible music tastes you can go to a concert together. Going to a play, musical or the opera together can be great fun.

Browsing a bookstore, new or used together can let you find out a great deal about her musical tastes.

Hell even just sitting in a cafe together and talking can be fun if you can keep up the conversation.

And one that I think is great fun : browse a toy store together, you want to date someone that knows how to have fun.

And thats the purpose of all of these. To put the two of you in an atmosphere where you are both relaxed and let the "real you" show.

Oh, and btw dinner and a movie doesn't have to be vanilla and boring. Try checking out foreign and art films together. If you have a arthaus that runs classic films you might want to give that a try.

Regardless let us know how this goes, this is by far the most interesting story hour I have read.

Both my girlfriend and I are cheering for you and hoping you find geek love.

Things to do other than dinner and a movie

I'm sure we can come up some things here, for example:

Theatre: always good, shows yous gots "kultur"

Bowling: Sure, it sounds bad, but I'm down with anything I actually do better drunk

Cooking: Maybe this comes a little farther down the road, but if you can cook at all, or even if not (that can be fun too) make a date out of it--go to the store, then put on some music, pour some wine and start chopping stuff up. If you get to eat some it thats always a bonus.

Fairs, carnivals, etc: CARNIES!

Strip joints: Only if she really likes you, and you can afford to tip for two

Pretend that you're married and go test drive cars/check out houses: As long as she knows (KNOWS) that its a joke, this can be interesting

Picnics: inside or outside, (I usually just drive around until I get lost, then go back and spread a blanket on the living room floor)

Go to the pound and play with puppies: um, duh

Go dancing: again, something that I do horribly sober, and only marginally better (I think) drunk, but the attempt is the important part here. Only if you can afford to lose some self-respect (and score goober points)

Drag shows: Again, if you can handle this well, this can be a pretty damn fun, and will score big time points if you can do it sincerely

Go to AA meetings together: When and if you get too heavily into bowling

Well, thats all I can think of at the moment, sure someone else can add to it...
:)
tribe

EDIT: Just saw the post above:Toy stores are a good idea--even better if you can get kicked out ;)
