D&D 5E Out of the Abyss IC

"Thanks," says Solace, enthusiastically. "I appreciate it." Then, to one of the others in the packed room, "Watch my stuff."

She lets herself down to the main level of the stalactite with a gentle swing, the rope ladder comfortably receiving her weight, and she's off, sprinting after the horde of Quaggoths, dagger-like shard in her hand.

She rushes past Raza -- "Oh, Raza! Be careful! there are Quaggoths and giant centipedes about. Maybe Drow" -- and continues on. Is the door in the second stalactite unlocked? If so, she'll go in and investigate. If it's locked, she will continue on.

OOC: Move: down the ladder and on past Raza. Move = 30. Bonus action, Dash = 30. That will take her at least to the door at R23, and (if locked) maybe beyond. I don't think she'll be within reach of a target this round.

Round 8

Solace took a steep rope bridge from the walkway ledge to the top section of the largest hanging stalactite she'd seen to date at the outpost. Despite the roar of the nearby waterfall, the sound of pitched fighting seeped through the air. Solace heard a small voice cry in fear from somewhere out on the platform containing the herd of quaggi. Shouts of anger and surprise made their way through the fray to her ears. The door to the stalactite was unlocked. Solace entered and was greeted by a dark circular room. Her eyes went to a massive black spider perched atop a wide squat pedestal of grey wood. The spider almost as tall as two men, its bloated underbelly just as broad. The thing made no movement, but four pairs of eyes glittered black like jet. Solace spied a pile of cushions on the floor, on top of dark silken mats woven with a web-strand pattern in thread of silver. A table before the piled cushions bore a censer of smoking incense and a pair of heavy silver candlesticks. To the right of the table was an open trap door that lead down.

A female drow, larger than K'nyr, rose up through the open trap door. Solace recognized Asha, understudy to Mistress Ilvara. Asha, who'd been buttoning the front of the silk bodice of her robe, looked up and spied Solace. Sibilant Undercommon spilled from Asha's mouth. "Aasimar. Out for a jaunt, are we? Who let you free? Fitting, to find you here, when I was about to make an offering." She reached for the dagger at her belt.

Round 8

The quaggi fanned out. One crept toward His Highness and the winch. Another two tried their luck against the bars of cell cages set into the eastern wall. Yet another pair broke apart and attempted unsuccessfully to gain access to closed doors in two stalactites, while a final quaggoth inched its way toward the drow guard on the bridge.

Inside the stalactite, Solace squared off against Asha, who drew not a dagger but a coiled scourge with a wicked barbed tail. Asha flicked the scourge once, twice, then lashed out with the weapon, raking Solace for 4 points of piercing damage. Tiny barbs bit into the bare flesh of Solace's forearms and neck, drawing welts and blood in their wake. Amidst the pain, Solace noted that the spider perched atop the pedestal remained uncannily stationary.

When Solace gets her next turn, it is potential relevant to know if there is a locking mechanism in the door she has just opened.

EDIT: I guess it's not all that relevant...
 

Solace recalled seeing a locking mechanism on the door to the stalactite she'd just entered. Fronds of sickness swept down the veins of her arms and unfurled in her belly. She felt sick, but for now remained standing.

Raza's fingers plucked at Solace's sleeve as she raced past. "Wait, girl..." But the headstrong young woman was already beyond range of Raza's whisper. Raza shook her head but retreated into the stalactite room looking for the others where light from the room above caught her attention. She doused her own magic light and clambered up into the crowded upper room.

Raza's keen-eyed gaze took in the arming in progress in the room. "What have you found, eh? Anything useful to an old woman?" She moved to the pile of gear and began looking for her own possessions.
