D&D 5E Out of the Abyss IC

As the tentacle unfurled, Kamael tried to make out what it was attached to, in the dark and twisty ceiling. Truly this Gods-forsaken place had no limit to the number of bizarre monsters that lived here.

"Everyone wake!" he yelled, at a slightly higher pitch than he originally intended. Knowing speed was essential, he concentrated and hastily drew on the power of the surrounding Weave. Now was his chance to show his companions that he could contribute equally to their survival! The fatigue and hunger was temporarily reprieved by the comforting routine of shaping the flux, as a shimmering transparent sphere coalesced in the air in front of him.

In an instance, it whirled towards the base of the tentacle, an unnatural deep rumble of sound erupting as the orb impacted near its target!

OOC:
Casting Chromatic Orb as a second level spell. Going for a Thunder energy in the hopes that the additional noise will help wake the others.

Even with half cover from the crevice of the stalagmite, the tentacle beast was struck by Kamael's chromatic orb for 23 points of damage. Everyone woke to Kamael's yelling. The creature--its foremost tentacle blackened from Kamael's damage--slinked its way forth from the stalagmite until it oozed completely free. Once exposed, Kamael saw the beast had eight tentacles in whole, a beak, and expressive eyes black with hunger. The eyes fixed on Jimjar. The creature was huge, much larger than Kamael, and towered over the eight foot high stalagmite growing from the floor.

OOC: ROLL INITIATIVE! The creature is a Rocktopus, and is size large. It occupies grid squares O14, P14, O15, and P15. I forget not everyone grew up in the U.S. mountainous West or the cavernous Midwest. If it helps you remember, two forms of cave formations include stalagmites and stalactites. Stalactites (which has a "c" in it) grow from the ceiling of a cave. Stalagmites grow on the floor. Or so I grew up learning in school and in field trips to national monuments.

At the tail end of his casting chromatic orb, Kamael felt a disturbance in the weave. The very end of his spell met with a spark and a flash; some strange interaction with the glowing rock in the passageway.

OOC: Make another wild magic surge check, Yavathol.

Raza Thulcandra

Raza was old and old bones rested uneasily on stone. Luckily, this night the group had found softer sand to sleep upon and Raza, exhausted, had sunk into a deep, restorative sleep. Except she woke after much too short a time unrefreshed and disoriented in the strange glimmer of the cave.

"What is it?" she hissed.

Brinn moved forward, but the kick he aimed at the rocktopus's head missed. He had better luck with Fist and Other Fist, however; both fists hit the rocktopus, dealing 12 points of damage. The creature did not react as Brinn darted backward away from it, but neither did it topple over prone.

OOC: Brinn is in K16. Raza is up to bat, GlassEye! Map update this evening.
