D&D 5E Out of the Abyss IC

Ce'rek was cautious. He knew his vision was superior to most surface people, but he still didn't know what lied ahead. Still, he carefully poked his head around the corner to see who was in the cavern beyond.

OOC: Any idea on range? I've got 90' of darkvision, not sure if thats farther than the party.

Ce'rek stuck his head around the sharply angled corner in the rock. Sixty-five feet from his current location, he made out an orc in chain mail carrying a warhammer. A glowing spectral spear hovered three feet off the ground in front of orc. Movement caught Ce'rek's eye; there was a pale-skinned woman, a surface dweller of some sort, at the top of a narrow set of stairs twenty feet east of the orc. The stairs led up, and whatever lay beyond them was obscured by rock. Ce'rek could hear but not see others. He made out at least two other distinct voices coming from somewhere behind the orc. Ce'rek did not think anyone had spied him, but he couldn't be sure. The woman was eyeing the dark in his direction with curiosity.

OOC: Kago's passive Perception score is not good enough to beat a Stealth DC 22 check. The only character who indicated they were actively having a good hard look was Solace, so I'd like Kobold Stew to provide a Perception DC 22 roll, please. Although Ce'rek is outside the limit of Solace's 60' darkvision, a successful Perception check could detect other things like sound or scent.

Whatever it was was outside her field of vision as she peered into the dark to the east, but Solace heard the distinct scritch of metal scraping on bare rock. Something lurked nearby.

When she needs to, Solace can move. She sprints towards the sound to investigate, the pads of her feet seeming to float over the irregular ground. As she moves she draws her rapier.

Have they been followed? She does not know. But she wants to see clearly what it is.

OOC:
1. Move 30 [move], 60 [move+cunning], or 90 feet [move+cunning+action] towards the sound.
2. Draw rapier [free interaction]
3. If action has not been used, cast light on nearby surface.
4. If cunning action has not been used, Disengage and move away.

Guessing that the monitor's medallion had no monetary value, Kamael left it around the kuo-toa's neck. His eyes were naturally drawn to Solace's sudden burst of movement, leading him to wonder what had caused it - more kuo-toa? Surely reinforcements would not have been so close! Perhaps the sound of combat had drawn some predator or scavenger like the rocktopus?

Unwilling to let Solace rush off into danger unsupported, he first moved next to Kago, and then forward, hugging the wall for cover but keeping Solace in sight.

His sword scraped against the rock. Clumsy. The pale girl heard him. Impressive. She was heading this way. He briefly considered ambushing her. Then considered running. But the girl...was she a prisoner of the orc? Worst case scenario, he would get to kill an orc. He waited until she got closer, and stepped out in full, leaning his staff against the wall of the cavern. He held his arms near out to his sides, his palms facing down, dipping his head slightly.

"You keep strange company, girl..." he rasped in rough common, glancing at the Orc, "...and are far from home."

Solace bounded down the stairs from the ledge, taking them two at a time. She sprinted across the open cavern, making straight for the mouth of the passageway where Ce'rek pressed himself against the rock wall, and drawing her rapier as she sped forward. Several things happened in concert. Ce'rek saw her rapid approach; indeed, she was nearly on him ere he could do much to react. Solace spied Ce'rek, and skidded to a stop when she was within ten feet of him. A wall was to her immediate right. She hadn't cast light on the wall, but it occurred to her as she eyed her quarry that she could do so. The creature that appeared before her, however, was no kuo-toa; nay, it was a goblin. And alone, at that. Well-armed with short swords at its hips and a staff and a shortbow poking up from behind, the goblin sported leather armor. His face was covered by a hood, but Solace could make out a row of pointy teeth and a snarl. Although he was small--he came up only to just above her waist--he was fearsome. The raven-haired human woman who stood before Ce'rek was ethereal-looking. Although it was dark in the cavern, her paleness gleamed. Certainly, she was quick, quicker than he might like. Ce'rek made out the drawn rapier in her hand, and a hand crossbow at her hip. She wore good-quality clean leather, better than his.

Kamael rounded the corner, brushing past Kago, and followed after his kin. It was dark in here, but like Solace Kamael could see decently well, albeit within limited range. He darted forward, stopping within forty feet of Solace. He could make out Solace, and then a moment later saw what she'd seen--a stunted goblin in leather, armed to the teeth.

OOC: Edited to account for Wrex's post, which I missed until after I responded here. I don't think we need to account for actions/bonus actions/reactions/movement anymore. Looks like ya'll can take it from here.

Solace is surprised when she sees the Goblin before her, and its calm demeanour.

She's taken aback when the monster speaks.

"I may be far from home, but you speak my language," she observes. "Are you alone? Have you been following us?"

Her eyes don't leave the creature, but she is learning that all is not as it seems at first in the Underdark. When she sees Kamael appear, she lifts her chin. "We've been followed, it seems," she says to him.

OOC: Attack readied, yadda yadda, but trusting it's not needed.
