Boxing is a weird one. Despite the potential for even greater violence in say Muay Thai, the ongoing concussive nature of Boxing, the 3 knockdown rule, the larger gloves, all combine to make for a sport that is even worse for the brain. I love all the 'combat' sports, but I think Boxing is actually the hardest to watch.

Oh exactly. The best part is, my Dad was my HS Football coach. In our league championship I lost vision out of one eye after a hit. "OK, just give it a few play's, it will come back."

And he sent me back out.

Well, from what I've seen, things are changing. Just not fast enough.

I think there is still a "just tough it out" mentality that you can find in places. Which ... look, I get that you are trying to develop toughness. But high school football should not be the pinnacle of your life.

Yeah, different era. Worst I had was Snowboarding because who would think about helmets when we have girls to impress?

It's tough because I think there are lessons learned in a sport like football, or hockey or boxing that you just won't get out of soccer or track.

But on the other hand the damage accumulated at 16-19, I get to carry till I am dead.

Oh I am entertained. I believe that a fight of truly equally skilled opponents is the height of athletic endeavor, as it then becomes a contest of will.

I also know however, as one who has had many a concussion through his sporting life, that getting bopped, hard, over and over and over just does wonders for the brain's health.

We have learned so much about concussions in recent years. I remember thinking we were pretty advanced about it back in the early 2000s when you had to take a few weeks from getting hit in the head if you had a particularly bad concussion. But it turns out most of us were sparring and walking with mild concussions all the time and just didn't realize it. We only paid attention when someone got hit so hard they were out to lunch

Oh, how many of my fellow students I have now eclipsed, in my life. It just took me 20 years more :ROFLMAO:
