Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

Yes and no. I mean, there are issues, but how many bridges actually fail each day? What is the likelihood you are on the (less than) one that does so?

All I'll say is, given the evaluations I've from the ASCE is "the day is young". We didn't have a lot of water main failures in Los Angeles until we did. The only two major bridge problems I know of in my area in recent years were the consequence of someone doing something really stupid, but while we aren't always too clever about some things (again, referencing the water mains and the like that have been put off for literally decades), bridges here get a lot more attention than the do some places in the U.S.

You call it survivorship bias, but if you are on something old enough to pre-date modern standard, you are on something that has already survived the regular things the area throws at it for, like, half a century or more. It will only fall over due to unpredictable circumstances that it wouldn't have been designed for anyway, or due to lack of maintenance.

Remember - the Tacoma Narrows bridge didn't collapse under odd circumstances. Those were the normal wind conditions in the area. The bridge's movement was noted during construction, and the thing lasted about four months before collapsing.
I have a fair understanding of probabilities and statistics (after almost failing the course in high school and later having one of the top 3 marks in college), but the human brain doesn't work like that. We're risk averse, by nature, and our lizard brains only tell us "BAD THING! RUN!!"

saw a thing last night that said "air fryers are the adult version of EZ-bake ovens"
EZ-Bake Ovens wish.

Nearly every appetizer you purchase at a restaurant for $13 is a $4 item from the freezer aisle thrown in an air fryer.

Once you have an air fryer and start using it regularly, you'll realize how much "restaurant food" is in your local Safeway, much, much cheaper than the restaurant.

I dunno about EZ-Bake Ovens, but "air fryers" are just small-scale convection ovens and those have been around for generations. Air fryers are more like toaster ovens with a fan inside (and most importantly, a trendy market buzzword.)

I have not purchased an air fryer because I have A) a toaster oven with convection features and B) a wall oven with convection features.

All sorts of technology lurks on the fringes until it hits the right form factor.

I remember people -- including here, as I recall -- saying the iPad would be a huge flop both because of its funny name and because tablet computers already existed and the market had largely rejected them.

We got our air fryer during the pandemic, when everyone was legally required to either buy one or an Instant Pot, and discovered we loved it. Lots of frozen food that's extremely mediocre in the microwave is restaurant quality in the air fryer and it's just as easy to use for all ages.

We actually used ours until it died and then bought a bigger and better one. It gets more use than our microwave does now.
