And I disagree. That misunderstanding is a 50/50 proposition.
At least.

"You must supply the context I refuse to acknowledge despite it being the safest assumption in existence next to water is wet."

Every post is someone's experience or opinion. Regardless of rhetoric. If you refuse to acknowledge that without an explicit statement, that's akin to pretending to be surprised that water's wet.

"How was I supposed to know water is wet? You didn't tell me."

The problem isn't the water. The problem is the person stubbornly refusing to acknowledge reality.

Water is wet. People can only post their experiences or opinions.

Going forward, I advise everyone to consider my posts to be made in a sarcastic tone, in order to avoid confusion. Including this one.

Take THAT, bots!

It won't make a dent. I put my tone in my sig and everything I say in jest or with a humorous tone is taken literally. Sadly the internet isn't great at reading sarcasm, irony or facetiousness

If you frequently have to explain or clarify the things you write, it's possible that your readers are bad at reading comprehension. But isn't it just as likely that you aren't communicating as well as you think you are?

Eh… look, I think that this isn’t easily resolved into a one-size fits all analysis.

Sometimes readers suck. Sometimes writers suck.

As I’ve recounted before, I stopped engaging quite as much in the threads I start for a simple reason. I realized that a lot of the time, people were arguing about the absence of something that I had already addressed in the OP. So I would quote the OP.

Which, sure. They didn’t actually read
It before arguing. But that didn’t matter because they just wanted to argue. And weirdly, people didn’t like having the earlier part pointed out.

Eventually I realized that if I already addressed it, then that was my thoughts on the issue. More words weren’t going to help. So I usually only get involved when it’s something new.
