Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

From all your posts, it's pretty clear Mama Snarf is a saint and a national treasure.

Honestly, I'd say the store can set their policy BUT, I've also seen stores do that to funnel product to their friends first.

No clean answer, and when big value items are on the line, everyone gets a bit gross.
That is one concern for sure. Some people are worried that is what the store is trying to do.. Which might be the case.

I know a lot of you don't play MTG, but you're familiar with game stores, and some of you even own them.. I'd love to hear your perspectives. MTG X is leaning on the side of the grinders saying that this is a scummy move by the LGS in question.. But I kind of find myself leaning towards the LGS's side.

I don't see any option that isn't exploitable (from one side's perspective).

If you let people travel, inevitably some locals will be screwed. A promotion to get new players into stores will eventually attract bigger fish to smaller ponds; it's kinda the entire point of a promotion. There will be people who hunt for small shops in remote areas and use travel (i.e. money and time) to game the system to win as many cards as possible.

But if you let stores be exclusive, it's just as problematic. Stores will inevitably make rules that ensure their favorite players have advantages, whether that favorite is the one who spends the most money at the store or is friends with the owner. And that's just as unfair to newer or remote players, who travel farther for the promotion. It also really undermines any reason for WotC to spend money on these promotions; they'd be just as well served by selling the cards.

Either way, the casual local player has the smallest chance of winning.

so we used to have two Denny's one downtown and the other up by the hotels etc. When the indoor smoking ban happened here, the downtown denny's got hit hard since that's what made up most of the late night smoker's coming in. It closed down a few years after the ban.

I'm going to complain about Magic: The Gathering.. and specifically the M:TG community on Twitter for a moment. I hope you all don't mind.
It is not! This is a thread for pizza discussion, and you have to go and bring your bagel bites in here? Reported!

Seriously, though, I don't play MtG, but friends in my various gaming groups over the decades have been avid players. We had a RoleMaster game at one point with 10-12 PCs, and so much time would pass between player actions in a fight that a couple of guys would go to the back of the room and play a quick game or two of Magic before one of them would go again. All this to say, I've heard of this kind of thing happening before.

The collectibles aspect of the game makes it tricky. If it's a nominal amount, you don't feel bad if you don't get the prize. But if it's a significant value, the thought is always there, that it might be a fix. I don't know what the answer is, but it's plagued MtG since the early days.
