People, even some smart ones do not always understand statistics.
At this point, I'm wondering if even a majority of the population does.
How many times have you heard this at the table?
"Dang it! That's the third time I've rolled a 1! What are the odds of that happening?"

The odds of rolling a 1 are the same every time you roll. The die doesn't grow more sides every time it repeats a result...

Regarding the venters and the helpers--problem is, there's probably in practice no fix for most of the venters problems that they'd find acceptable (sometimes for kind-of good reasons, sometimes not) so all they can do is complain about it, because its like a persistent itch they can't do anything but scratch at.

You can still talk about it as a set, especially within a particular time frame. It just doesn't really mean anything.

They also don’t understand vaccines, pharmaceutical efficacy, and other aspects of how medicine & public health measures actually work.

I believe in vaccines and am vaccinated, but given the role the industry played in the opioid crisis, the way the industry essentially spends unlimited money influencing legislation and the way the industry has done shady things like jack up the price of vital medications for profit (sometimes to insane prices), I can understand why people are skeptical of the pharmaceutical industry
