Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

I've been to In-N-Out once since I moved to California. It was ludicrously busy at like 3 pm on a Saturday, and the food was fine? I think the fact that there are no In-N-Outs in SF might have something to do with how busy it was. It was one of the two down in Daly City, and it was slammed.

(First: I fully realize tastes are personal.)

I’ve heard people sing the praises of Shake Shack recently, but I haven’t tried them yet.

I tried my first In-N-Out burger a few years ago shortly after the first one in D/FW opened to major hype, and haven’t been back. What I had was…OK, and their menu was a bit limited- I didn’t see anything that set it apart from other major burger chains. 🤷🏾‍♂️

So now I’m questioning the Shack recs.

I've been an Angelino pretty much since birth, and I've never understood the attraction of In-and-Out honestly. I just wrote it off as being the price of someone who wants his burgers with tomato and maybe some (non-American) cheese, and that's it.

No, they're busy most places in the Greater Los Angeles area, and we have tons of them. I don't get it either.

Part of the thing to remember about In-N-Out is that, nowadays, it's comparable or sometimes less than McDonald's. It's competing with them (they all started in the same area) and trounces other drive-thru burgers.

Sit down burger places, which cost more, are in a separate category and, given the higher price, certainly ought to cost more. (Otherwise, why the higher price?)

That said, not everyone loves In-N-Out, nor are they required to. And yes, they are aggressive about keeping a very small menu, for quality control and inventory reasons. (Nothing other than ice cream is frozen at In-N-Out and all has to be provided by a farm within one-day's driving distance.)
