I'd have to do the "I know it when I see it" situation, and there'd be all kinds of ways for people to (legitimately) tell me I was full of it.

It makes me cringe when folks enter a discussion about any RPG as if it is D&D. I know I am guilty of saying “it’s all D&D to me!” But I mean that in a broad sense of a brand name used in a generic way, not because I don’t know the differences in rules, approach to play, player expectation, GM authority, and overall goal of play that exist across a range of games.

It is for this reason you will never catch me talking about PBtA games for example. I have a general understanding of them but have never played one and am not about to judge one based on my understanding of D&D.

Heck sometimes even two people both playing D&D at different tables are playing different games and cannot seem to find a common ground to talk about it.

Imagine sitting down to play bridge and asking the other players if they still play with Mana Burn.
