poop

I would think adventurers *would* be the norm for purple worms...or anything else that can swallow whole....I mean, they wouldn't do it if it didn't prove successful to killing things, and where else would that 'muscular action that closes the hole' come from, if not millenia of adventurer-based natural selection?

What does the new book, the Dragonnomicon-thingy, have to say about what happens when a Dragon swallows whole? If a person has healing potions on them, would the Dragon be healed if he swallowed them whole? What about Alchemist Fire?

I used the "treasure/magic items in the dung" trick as far back as 1e. Works great, esp when the players finally figure out exactly what they must dig through to find their precious treasure. Some players I've seen don't seem to care one way or the other, but a few I've seen, their faces are a bit priceless
:D

Does any one else keep getting the image of the female scientist in Jurassic Park, when she's sifting through the poop looking for those berries that are making the Triceritops (sp?) sick.

Or maybe that's just me?......

It's not just you. I had the same image in my mind.

Game mechanics wise, if the stomach does Acid damage then that may destroy most normal gear, even metal stuff. I dunno about +2 Longsword and whatnot, but I can't get this image out of my head of a red dragon making that horrible "hungh...hungh...hungh" noise that our cat does when she has a hairball.

For another datapoint, I used my very own Swallow Whole ability on a dozen or so screws from our storm windows at the tender age of about 4. Neither they nor I seemed to suffer any permanent damage although I think my dad decided to go to the hardware store for replacements rather than wait for the originals to...reappear.

Make of that what you will.

Even in the Forgotten Realms, there aren't enough adventurers around for them to be a staple of the diet. Especially when each time you go up against somethign like an adventurer, you run the risk of death. Generally speaking, a predator that preys on critters that have a healthy chance of killing it don't live long. I mean, if you're a critter that can swallow man-sized objects, which would you prefer - armed foes with magic on their side, or common sheep?

This is the most amusing thread I have read in some time.

I love Enworld. Anywhere where friends can talk openly about poop is a good place to be.

As for the question, I've never really thought about it. But I will never look at a monsters lair quite the same way ever again....

;)

Anything that causes PCs to come into direct prolonged contact with monster poop is a good thing IMO. Why do you think sewers are such a great place for adventures?
