D&D 5E Precision Attack + SS + CBE is like +2d6 sword

You're not just comparing feat to "no feat" though. You're comparing IMO the one truly overpowered feat (I don't consider GWM overpowered btw) AND another feat it pairs extremely well with AND a maneuver that goes perfectly with it - to no feat. That's a lot. It's certainly not a reason to ban feats in general (as a different poster suggested).

To which - ok it's potent IF you consider DPR top priority. My group's fighter went the defense route (protection style, sentinel) and hasn't been the least bit disappointed.

If you kill everything that much faster defense doesn't matter as much. Death is the best debuff in D&D.

But yeah Frogreavers combo is very broken I've seen it in actual play.

I called these feats out roughly 6 years ago. Opinion in them hasn't changed.

In D&D something with 1 HP is just as dangerous as something with full HP so yes defense can matter. Especially when that defense is to prevent a hit or to prevent movement.

It matters but if you kill stuff twice as fast you take half the damage.

Defense matters but people over value it espicially newer players.

Unless you've got a lot if it eg Totem Barbarian.

Yea. I played a CE + SS Fighter once. I won't do it again. It was so much stronger than the rest of the party.

Yep, 1 small caveat:

The structure of the game makes that true for most enemies. But there are plenty that have front loaded abilities. Breath Weapons come in mind. Spell casters also do. Of course having such a high damage character means you are likely going to be able kill spell casters before they even get a turn.
