I've been guilty of bandying around the title of "Best Movie Ever" before, attaching it to films wholly unworthy of the throne. But now, let it be known that I say this unabashed, believing, nay, KNOWING that this time I'm right on:

Best.
Movie.
EVAR
.

I am still shaken by how little I enjoyed RotK.

Unfortunately, I can't defend my position (the hour-long argument I had with my friends proved that).

Ultimately I walked out of the theater feeling sad----just not for the reasons Mr. Jackson would have liked.

The trilogy has been a downhill ride for me---I thought FotR was a masterpiece...TTT was flawed by engrossing....and now I'm left forlorn at the end of RotK.

I find myself wondering what this trilogy could have been in the hands of a more disciplined, focused director.

Alas.

edit: I do have to thank Jackson and Co. for bringing Middle Earth to life visually. Every stitch of clothing, every blade, every cut of marble and wood was breathtaking in it's devotion to Tolkien's vision. RotK did not disappoint on that level.

Mmmkay. I Got back from seeing it about 30 mins ago. Sadly I missed Tuesday's midnight showing as well as the whole trilogy tuesday thing (damn it...) But I managed an 8pm showing tonight. :)

I thought the opening scene was a great way to open the movie but I felt it was poorly executed. Sorry. I know that Fran directed it (I think?), and if it was her first try at directing, I guess it was okay, but not up to snuff compared to the rest of the film.

I felt the movie dragged a bit, and I consider myself a pretty hardcore fan.

Everything with Frodo/Sam/Gollum was excellent. When Frodo escaped from Shelob I thought Peter Jackson had gone and ruined it. But we're soon treated to the Sam/Shelob battle that was expected. It makes sense that it took place OUTISIDE of Shelob's lair instead of inside (like in the book), it would have been difficult to pull off that fight in such a confined space. So, some changes like this are for the better.

Overall RotK seems more true to the book than the previous two movies. I am very satisfied :)

Anyway... I don't want to get too deep into this. I'll save my full review for my journal. I give RotK a 9 out of 10

Big thumbs up from me. Very enjoyable. It was amazing that, despite knowing what was coming next (both from reading the books and being very "spoiled" on the movie) I was still literally gripping the arms of my seat at many points.

I rated this a 10. My favorite movie(s) ever.
The comment I made after seeing FotR the first time held for the entire series: Not only was it better than I expected, it was better than I hoped it could be. RotK was still better than I expected even after experiencing the first first two extended movies.
