Ratio of male:female gamers (was forked "DDM: Chicks not in chainmail")

I can't say anything valuable about groups in my area (most other female players I've seen were someone's girlfriends), but I have a curious observation on PbP games. The forum I admined for some years was dominated by female players (and literally also - all 5 admins were girls). Other forum games I've seen were like that as well. Maybe that's because forum games are mostly fandom-based and fanfic-related, and most fanfiction authors are female.

I believe the 1 in 5.

For every game I've seen where the ratio was more like 1 in 3, there's been a game where the ration was 0 in Whatever.

A lot of women are uncomfortable with the male oriented culture of many gaming groups (or flat out find it repulsive, or are actively and intentionally repelled by the gaming group in question). That suggests that when you find female gamers, they may be disproportionately represented in the locale in comparison to the population as a whole.

I've been gaming for over 30 years now, and have only gamed with 3 women in that time, with one more coming up (a guy in my group is having his g/f join, but she is replacing the woman who dropped out because she is divorcing one of the guys in my group... )

So, I would say that would be 4 women out of well over 100 gamers. So, maybe 1:30?

This has all been private gaming - I have never been to any sort of gaming convention anywhere.

The three married guys in our group (me included) all have non gaming wives.

I have 2 groups going right now, one is 3:1 the other is 4:1.

All the females are spouses, but all enjoy the game and get into it as much as the men.

Yeah, my current group is 5:1, but another group I was in last year was 2:1 (and it, in fact, broke up because both women had babies about a month apart).

My games are currently 1:1 (12 players in two campaigns, 6 female, no overlap.) I'd believe the overall number is 1:5. At cons, the numnber is closer to 1:10.

I've never gamed in public. But for the last 6 years I've been gaming, we've always had at least 2 women & 3 guys in the group.

Of the groups I have:

3 guys and 1 gal in homeplay group 1
2 guys and 3 gals in homeplay group 2
4 guys and 1 gal in online group

(all of the above are unique collections and don't include myself... whom is a guy)

There are gals at the meetups too but I honestly haven't looked at it from a ratio standpoint.
