Ratio of male:female gamers (was forked "DDM: Chicks not in chainmail")

So, what it looks like from all our anecdotes, is that 1:4.3 (ie 19%) might be about right. Home groups are a bit higher, and the convention crowd is a bunch lower (but less numerous) so it probably works out...

5:1 male:female ratio sounds about right to me.

Now, if you're asking about male to HAWT female ratio, that number on the Male side jumps up quite a bit...

Its worth noting that there are areas of gaming with more women.

Board gaming, for example. Particularly the eurogames.

My local club runs about a 1/3 ratio on female board gamers.

In stable tabletop groups, including everyone in some fluid player rosters, I've got:

5:0
5:4
7:5

If I were to eliminate overlap, it's 15:7.

Edit: if I were to include everyone in stable groups over the 10 years, it would be 20:8. Going back to the beginning of my RPG experience it would be 29:10.

I feel strange - female gamers have been so rare in my life. As I said before, I must have gamed with well over 100 guys over the years, and on May 1st, I will be encountering my 4th woman gamer in all that time...(the girlfriend of one of the guys in my group is bringing her along. She is a gamer, though)

Assuming the world doesn't end before next Friday, it will take my ratio from about 43:1 to 30:1.

Only the first one was a gamer on her own, and that was almost 25 years ago. The last three were there because of boyfriends/husbands.

Female Gamers

In my personal experience with gaming, I wouldn't want to socialize with 80% of gamers in general...no offense intended. I've had alot of bad luck finding serious gamers who I could say "Hey, this person is actually cool!" I find it very rude when I hear all the little boys say, they don't want girls to play role playing games. Most girls are more creative gamers. I'm extremely hard core, when it comes to my games, and if I ever found a girl who just excepted what I do, and wasn't intimidated by the amount of time I spend making battle maps, three dimentional landscapes, or creating a seven page character sheet, and she was cute...I'd marry her!!!!! For both the female gamers out there, you rock!!!!!! don't let the little boys kick you out of the sand box.

Well I've been playing for around 10 years and DM'd for the past 8. As a DM my groups actually average at about 3 male : 2 female ratio. Mainly because I rampantly recruit friends who are an even mix. Never have really played with a pick-up group. Also fairly high percentages of HAWT males and females (I am a mean person, but as Oscar Wilde said, I choose my friends for their looks:) )

well, my group has doubled its number of women now. The married couple that had separated have made up... hopefully, they'll stick together. But, we now have 2 couples at the gaming table now. So, 5 men and 2 women and myself (a guy) as DM. So, 25%.
