D&D (2024) Rules that annoy you

5e doesn't let you smack people with a shield, either.

Like I get the game reason (you have to make people stop attacking at some point) but c'mon
That occurred to me the other day. I was wanting to make a hoplite-like paladin who worshipped the greek gods stabbing people with his spear and smashing them with his shield and realised I couldn't.

And annoyingly they've stuck with Crawford's ruling for the Shield Master feat by specifying that you can't do the Shield Bash until after you've attacked with another weapon (although it is admittedly now a free attack rather than a bonus action one). One of my favorite things to do with the 2014 Gladiator NPC is have it knock PCs prone with its Shield Bash, then attack them with advantage with its weapon. PCs don't appear to be able to do that back. :(

I'm inclined to house rule the 2024 Shield Master feat so that you can also make a Shield Bash as an action for those instances where someone might want to just knock someone over (or back) with their shield, perhaps with the intention of intimidating them into surrendering or just pushing them out of the way, without having to attack them with a weapon first.

I can't remember where I first saw it, but some game somewhere had you simply pour the potion on the wound itself, which then instantly closed because magic.

Much more believable.
“It’s a poltice, sir. You’re not supposed to eat it.”
"You regain hit points when you drink this potion".

Healing Poltice would be a lot better.
