I tried the demo. I don't know if I just reached the end of the demo or what, but at the choice that comes up when they're done fighting the druids I touch the wheel to try and choose.. and I go back to the main menu.

I also really, really dislike not being able to fast-forward. Or go to chapters. Or anything else save 'play' at normal speed.

Slightly OT, but I have some DVDs that do that... and it's one of my biggest pet peeves as well.

It comes down to the old battle:

"I made the movie, I should have control over how it gets watched."
vs.
"I bought the movie, I should have control over how it gets watched."

IMO, taking away the ability to FF, skip, etc. on DVDs is creating a broken product... since I am paying for the DVD, I expect the person creating it to cater to ME. I am financing it. Therefore, it should do what I want it to, not what the creator wants it to. Because it's MY money that is, ultimately, giving incentive for the creation.

If they try to please me and miss the mark, fine... but by creating a product that obviously caters to their desires as to how it should work, and does so at the clear and deliberate expense of them deciding to ignore my desires in order to cater to their own desires I have a problem with that. Again, it's MY money you're after, so you darn well better make it useful to me before you worry about making it useful to you. :(

Kind of the same reason I am against password-protected PDFs. They don't stop piracy and they just annoy legitimate customers.

And if I go much farther, I'll go off into an anti *AA rant and gripe about how broken copyright law is and that copy prevention combined with the DMCA (possibly the worst piece of legislation ever) has amounted to literally the end of growth of the public domain in the U.S. - but that would be getting political, and that's not allowed here, so I'll shut up. :)

I liked the demo. A little short, but it was about what I expected.

Maybe I'm missing something, but what's the problem with no FF or chapter select. I mean, would you go through a "Choose Your Own Adventure" book just looking at the chapter choices and not reading the passages?

Hey there.

The removal of the DVD navigation options is different in this case because of the "choose your own adventureness" of it. Since it is a non-linear story, fast forwarding and skipping chapters would simply take you to a different chapter numerically and not necessarily the next part of the story. This was not done to tick people off, simply a restriction that had to be put in place so that the DVD story didn't break. There are six jump points that can be found under the Help menu that allows you to fast forward in the story without it breaking. Even though it can be frustrating, there was no way around it.

As for continuity with the novels, the first of this series didn't come out until late 2002. The script was started Jan 2002, so there was no way to check for continuity. Would've been cool mind you...

As for the Collector's Edition, just to assure you that there was nothing left off in order to make the Collector's Edition. Only after the first one was complete was there talk about a Collector's Edition. The two new endings were written and produced well after the first DVD was delivered.

Hope that helps some.

There are some gallery images that can be found here.

Yes, very frustrating and annoying especially when you have finished the movie first time and want to explore other paths.
I just don't want to watch Regdar fight the earth element more than once, I just to want to explore the other paths.

How much time is there between 'jump' points. I found it painfull to do just with the demo version, I can't imagine dealing with it in the full blown copy.

Why didn't you add a 'save' feature that would work with either Playstation II or x-box? I would have saved the game at each decision point so it would be easier to explore the alternate paths.

At the moment, I don't see myself buying this product.

Ysgarran.

There are 6 jump points, starting anywhere from right at the begining to right near the end of the story. It's pretty easy to get to any of the paths from any one of the six choices.

A save feature would only work on some game systems, and the DVD was designed to work on any home DVD theatre system.

Again, this is was a limitation of the technolgy, especially when dealing with a non-linear story.

I'll look for them again, then. I figured there had to be something like that and I figured it had to be under Help, but I nevr saw them. I'll see about it tonight.
