Shapechange Issues, any suggestions

In our campaign I have a sorcerer who just hit 18th level and I chose shapechange for my 9th level spell slot. As he had some recent dealings with celestials he was familiar with them and likes to change into Planetars or solars while in combat so that he had the obvious advantages that being a solar or planetar provided. However my DM is not liking this arrangement. Not so much that he wants to rule 0 anything, because that is not his style, but it is just not sitting well with him that my toon now has amazing DR as well as AC and other plusses all the time while still being able to cast my sorcerer spells.

Is this spell a bit too good, are there any ways to modify it perhaps? Perhaps I am missing some downside to the spell? Has anyone else used this spell and found it a bit *too* useful?

I guess that the shapechange spell allows outside types, but I wish that the description were more specific. It would have been nice if the description for shapechange simply said "You may change into any non-unique type of creature from fine to colossal in size that you are familiar with." Oh well... If you GM is having trouble with this spell, he should realize that high level npcs can use it as well. Also, Greater Dispel Magic, Limited Wish, Wish, Mordenkainen?s Disjunction, and Anti-Magic may disrupt the shapechange spell. Your character gains the subtypes as well, so when in angel form anything that effects the good subtype would affect your character as well: Protection from Good, Magic Circle against Good, Unholy Blight, Dispel Evil, Blasphemy, Unholy water, Unholy weapons, and Bane (good) enchantment.

A nitpick, but Shapechange has been errata'ed to caster level (not twice caster level) in HD, so a planetar is OK for a 18th-level sorcerer, but not a solar. Power-wise, it's good, but you are burning a 9th-level spell, after all.

Do they not update the SRD with errata info? Well I'm glad to hear it does only go to caster level. Both Shapechange and Gate needed that modification to bring them inline I think, even for 9th level spells. Thanks for the update.
