Smallville

This episode of Smallville was really really bad. Does anybody know where I can find spoilers for this show. I want to read the rest of the season to determine if I am going to give up on the show or keep watching. To say I am tired of the Clark - Lana relationship would be a monumental understatment.

Hey, it's a prime-time drama aimed at younger viewers. Of course there's gonna be a heavy relationship-troubles angle. You expected differently?

Sorry, but I don't know any source of reliable spoilers for the show.

No i expected as much and have held out longer than any of my friends. 2 of my friends are die hard superman fans and they stopped watching mid way thru season 1 becasue of the bad relationship writing and it was too teeny. My rational is of course it is teeny, Superman is a teen. But now, I think it is time for me to say good-bye to Smallville. I don't think I will be missing much with a great storyline like Lex's unknown brother comes to town with an itchen to do evil.

I could take teeny, it is the poor writing and unimaginative plots that are killing me.

Here, here to KtT. Pisses me off that the producers have this great chance to explore the youth of one of the country's greatest icons and they're making it about his stupid sloe-eyed twit of a love interest. I hate hating Clark, but I do.

http://www.kryptonsite.com/ is a big spoiler site. Pictures and discussion.

Hmmm...

This week's episode isn't what I'd call strong but I was entertained. The Clark/Lana thing is getting a little old but if you showed me a relationship that wasn't complicated that would be wholly boring not to mention unrealistic.

Considering the show is 1.5 season's old I'd have to say they've done a good job so far. All the Clark/Lex stuff is good. Any time Lionel shows up the show gets better. Ma and Pa Kent are still good characters. Pete is underdeveloped but well used. Chloe is interesting and needed for most of the plots to work. Lana has had her strong moments for certain and I'm sure will have more.

Clark dealing with his powers, having feelings for Lana and not being able to tell her is part of the Superman/Superhero formula and tragedy. He can run faster than a speeding bullet, save countless lives but can't tell the woman he loves about his abilities because it could get her killed. And the one thing that keeps Clark from love and happiness is all the responsibility he puts on himself because of his powers. A true superhero in the most basic sense.

Sure, there will be a stale episode here and there but just keep watching. If it doesn't hold your interest, stop watching. Don't read spoilers. That will just ruin the potential entertainment value not to mention the surprises that the show holds.

So if you were writing the show, what would you have Clark be doing each episode?

While not a strong show this week, not a bad one. What we are seeing is the person that will become superman, it is those little things in his life that will make him into the icon. This episode touched on that. Superman is a loner, he did not let people get close to him, why? We see it in this episode, they hurt themselves and endanger him, even use him, he can't even explain himself to someone that he really cares about.

I wouldn’t change what Clark does. He saves the day every time. That’s what he’s supposed to do. I would, however, change the way he acts.

I don’t see Superman in Clark Kent. I know SV is building up to the man he will become, but aside from the heroic deeds, I just don’t know how this Clark will evolve into the world’s greatest superhero. He’s shallow and foolish, like a typical teenager. Why isn’t he shy and considerate and driven? Why hasn’t the show explored what it’s like for him to be an alien? He’s just a kid with superpowers.

Smallville has the most complicated relationship on TV right now. Clark Kent is best friends with Lex Luthor, who will be his most hated enemy in the years to come. Their relationship is legend. A few episodes notwithstanding, Lex has been almost completely ignored. If Smallville is chronicling the rise of Superman, it should also concentrate on the fall of Lex Luthor, Superman’s greatest enemy. Lana Lang is basically inconsequential to the Superman mythos, yet Clark’s bone-dry, run around crush on Lana Lang is the focus of the show. It's disgustng the way this is neglected just to pander to the demographic.

Do remember that in the comics (specially the John Byrne revision in 86) Clark was nowhere near as serious as Superman turned out to be. He actually used his superpowers to become a football legend and win the heart of the most popular girl in town (Lana).

So the more "shallow" Clark appears to be now, the more amazing his rise as Superman will be.

But I do not see him as being shallow. When Ryan was kidnapped (in the episode "Ryan"), Clark went "damn the torpedos" and races the kid outta there. When Lana and Chloe started treating him oddly (in the episode where Johnathan Taylor Thomas could divide himself), his last line to them was incredible: "Stop treating me like the angry boyfriend, since none of us actually dated". That kind of commanding stance is the first step in his evolving super persona.

Lex, forgotten? Almost every show we get a glimpse of what's to come: Ryan and Lex talking about comic book hero "Warrior Angel" and how WA's best friend became his enemy for not agreeing to use their powers to rule mankind; Clark being told that Numan (the prophesised baby-clark from the stars) was going to battle the great evil serpent that was once his best friend.

----SPOILERS-----

With Christopher Reeve joining the cast and shedding some light on Clark's origin (it's told that Reeve adds two very important superman-terms to the show; my guesses are Krypton and kryptonite), it'll become a major turning point in Clark's life, towards his super-self.

Oh, and Chloe? She's Lois Lane's cousin.

How's THAT? :)
