Soundfile

Drowned Hero

First Post
Hey People. Quick question:

Is it possible to link a sound file in a post? Say i have a place to host a sound file and i want fellow players to hear the music while they read the post. Is there any code i would use for this purpose?

Might be best/easiest to ask players to open a second window.

Just to keep it safe for various browser setups, I'd recommend hosting the file on Putfile. That way, you can link to a Flash-based audio player with the sound file pre-loaded, instead of linking to the raw file and possibly causing people's badly-configured browsers to crash when they try to play it.

Unless of course you want to actually give people the file rather than show it to 'em, that is. I don't think Putfile actually lets people download the media it hosts.

I think i will try that. But i would need more info. You have any names of a flash based player? do i need to convert the audio file to a specific format?
Any info will help.

No, see, Putfile provides the player. Like YouTube, but for audio files. I believe it supports the usual array of audio formats, so MP3 or WAV should be fine. It's a handy little thing, really. I think next time I attempt to run a play-by-post campaign, I'll offer recommended listening for my players during certain parts of the game.

I wonder if http://odeo.com/ could be used in that same manner?

Odeo could be useful if you as a GM would like to speak to your players in a PBP as oppsoed to just type everything out...you could play back ground music as well and would probably be a great addition for particularly special moments in your PBP game such as a Speach given by a king after a great war, or as the BBEG oration that they always seem to give where they tell the players everything they are going to do now that the PCs are trapped in a pit with no possible way out...of course they will escape somehow just in time to stop the BBEG but hey its fun and cliche...of course I guess you could use it just for music.
