We get a lot of 1 season shows :)

To be fair, I can't fault a network for catering to its bottom line. It gets a certain slate of shows, and it tries them out. the ones that make-eth the monies go on and get renewed, and the ones that don't die on the vine.

This isn't firefly either where the network put the show on in the wrong order and all of the other crap that hindered the show. Academy got fair press and promotion, it wasn't "hidden from the world" or anything like that. It just didn't cut the mustard.

Its sad for me because I did think the show was decent (it was no Strange New Worlds, but I think it was a decent star trek show), but I can respect that it probably wasn't going to be the next big Star Trek hit...and its ok to let it die.

Yeah, I agree.

It really is too bad, because IMO the first season was significantly better than Picard, better than Discovery, and only a bit behind Lower Decks and Strange New Worlds in quality.

I was not particularly looking forward to the 32nd century setting - but the show made it work well.

How do you figure that their goals for one show should bear up if applied to all shows at once? That makes no sense.
Why would it only be their goal for this show? In any event, I'm disappointed. It wasn't my favorite tv show....but it had promise.
I'll just wait and see what comes next, though my hopes are very low at after these two shows end.

If every show has to be top ten to be renewed, I don't know how we have any shows.
It's presumably an expensive show, with lots of sets, CGI and so on. So it's kinda understandeable that it needs to bring in a certain viewership to be considered worth it.

I kinda feel like Star Trek's biggest troubles however are Paramount's business situation. Big transactions, big debts, leadership changes... I think with a healthier corporation as backing, they might still cancel/end both shows, but might have another one planned already.

The stated reasons for the cancellation was ratings. At no time was Season 1 of Starfleet Academy in the top ten of Nielsen streaming rankings, so outnit goes.

Those who didn't like a Klingon in a skirt will read into it, of course.
That's a pretty tough measure for a Star Trek show, given how their first seasons tend to be dogs.

Ultimately, the desire to fill up Paramount+ with new content got a lot of Star Trek greenlit, but those heydays of spending are over. That said ... Paramount's new owners are ... not people that would jive with Star Trek's message and I'm not sure I would want to watch the type of Trek they would like.

So, I guess where I stand is that I'm glad I get another season, but ready to ... not have more new Star Trek for awhile once SNW and SFA air. Which will suck, especially since my hopes of being on a Star Trek set feel really out of reach now, and I was proud that Toronto was home to all this Trek production. TBH, this feels to be an end of an era, and it'll take a bit before we see what else takes its place.

Bring back 22 episode seasons that cost less than 2 episodes of academy.

The problem is that they spend 100 mil for 8 episodes with years between.

I am tired of short seasons with no character building or time to get to know the setting.
I do miss the old system where you actually had time to develop support characters and secondary plots.
