Spoilers Star Trek: Strange New Worlds - Season 3 Viewing (Spoilers)

I can't say I really care that much. There's tons of way a character can go without keying off one suspension from duty as a central element.
It doesn't necessarily need to be key, but it should be referenced in some way. Perhaps as part of a spiral that ultimately needs to be addressed?

Then again, what Star Trek character doesn't have some sort of reprimand on their record?

Edward Jellico?

The question is whether that is ESSENTIAL to an episode of character development for her or not. As in: can they absolutely not do development for her if she isn't suspended, or something? Not "would it have been cool", but "is it necessary.
The answer is no...its likely not essential. But is that question even relevant here? Not every single element of a character has to become super relevant down the road to justify its existance. It is ok to just have things happen to people because...that's what happens to people.

If Ortegas messed up, got a reprimand and a suspension for it to highlight to the audience (oh she REALLY messed up)....but then she is back to work...sure you certainly can do more with that, I don't think you need to. The larger thing with Ortegas is the PTSD and anger that generated the suspension, that I do think they have set up as a major part of her arc this season and we do need more closure on that part. But the suspension itself is just a means to an end.

I wonder if something will happen with Ortegas' brother at some point. They can't have introduced him just so he could annoy his sister by flirting with Uhura, and because he's making a documentary of multiple Enterprise missions, he is going to be a recurring character, even if he's not in every episode.

Maybe she ends up having to rescue him, which bolsters her confidence, or on the flip side, he dies, which messes her up even more!

That's true, but alternate timelines and reboots change things all the time. It's not beyond the realm of possibility that we could see him before the end of the series.
You're not wrong, but I'd expect to see Sulu first. SNW is pretty much it's own thing though, so it's not completely beholden to canon. For example, we could see Chekhov's brother, Piotr (despite the fact that Chekhov imagined him while under the influence of the Beta-XII-A entity; TOS, "Day of the Dove"- and even if he was real, he was supposedly killed by Klingons!) appear and only a truly die hard Trekker would even bat an eye, lol.
