Star Wars: Force Unleashed (Saga Edition)

I see that the next product for Star Wars Saga Edition appears to be a tie in with the Star Wars: The Force Unleashed line, according to Amazon it's due for release in November.

Anyone know anything more? According to the Lucas Arts site, in the video game you play Darth Vadar's secret pupil and go round hunting the last of the Jedi while the idea of combining powers seems cool the idea of playing a villain doesn't appeal to me in the slightest. Action takes place between Episodes III and IV.

I'm wondering if anyone has heard anything about the RPG book that is part of Hasbro's tie in. I would assume that the RPG has a boarder focus but it would still be a pretty Jedi focused campaign setting.

I figure it's going to be part era sourcebook, part crunchy new force powers. As far as they game goes, they're really hyping up Lucasarts' new physics engine. I don't understand the most of the technical stuff behind it, but basically it seems reactive rather than scripted (e.g., if you chuck a rock at a box, the box will splinter and break depending on how hard you chuck the rock, the angle it hits the box, etc.) There's going to be a lot of over-the-top Force stuff in the game as well. I'm looking forward to the game.

I haven't heard anything about the sourcebook other than at Amazon. The videogame has been delayed to next year, so it's very likely the sourcebook will be too.

If that's the case, then a KOTOR book should take its place on the product release schedule.

Force Unleashed was supposed to be released around Christmas this year, but got pushed back to 2008, ostensibly for technical reasons. I guess LucasArts learned not to rush games just to make a few extra Christmas bucks. But since the book and minis expansion are ready to go, it makes little financial sense for WotC to hold off on the tie-in products just becuase the game programmers found a last-second critical coding glitch, and thus lose potential 2007 sales revenue, especially when one of those products is for a game line that's being relaunched.

As for the "Old Old Republic" sourcebook, that may not have even been started yet, so I doubt there's any way it could be released this year without being a very dodgy piece of work, much like the latter half of Kotor2 was.

There've been hints on the Wizards boards about other eras, and my impression is that we're likely to get one "setting" book that details a bunch of eras to be played in.

It's possible they'll release as scheduled, but tie-ins to a media project that has been pushed back usually get pushed back themselves. I suspect the minis might be released as planned, but the campaign guide is likley to get pushed back if it has storyline spoilers from the game. Depending on the agreement WotC has with Lucas Film/LucasArts, they may not have any choice but to delay it.

I've watched a video about the making of "Force Unleashed", and the plan is to basically turn the Force-use dial 'up to 11', making the character into a superhero that wouldn't look out of place in Marvel (or some of the Clone Wars cartoons).

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3qJrV11TUa8 and related bits show examples of what is in mind for the game...

Doesn't fit my personal vision of starwars, I like the more subtle and limited version which we see in the movies.

Cheers

Many of those shots in the video seem in keeping with uses of telekinesis in the prequel movies.

Agreed that it's possible that LucasFilm could have the release of both items pushed back (after all, they pushed the initial March release of SECR to May to coincide with the 30th anniversary of New Hope). But if WotC has their way, I'm sure they'd want to release both products during the same fiscal year (assuming it's a calender year, which most business tend to use for ease of bookkeeping).
