STARGATE UNIVERSE #5:Cloverdale/Season 2/2010

Aside from Matt now wondering if Chloe is "safe" I'm not sure there was any character building stuff. Anything happeing in the fantasy sequences has only immediate entertainment value, such as it is, and I'm searching my memory to think of things in non-fantasy sequences that would qualify as longterm value to the plotlines, characters, etc.
It told us about how Matt sees his place in the world and where he puts the other characters. Who's his dad? Telford as cop? Himself as someone just doing what's expected from him. (So that's why he's so bland?)

It just wasn't all that compelling. The episode giving us insights into Rush's head was more interesting.

Somebody else said, but I'll second it.
I WANT to like this show. I've been watching SG something for a long time.
But they aren't giving me anything to like.

Waste of time all around. Especially since they
wiped away Scott having the virus 5 minutes into next episode.

Only question that reLy mattered to me is this reinforces the limited knowledge Destiny has on gates. I'm thinking the system really doesn't know much and blocked addressed are just buried or destroyed in some manner.

The crates had dirt in them. Greer said he wanted to dig a moat in addition to building the barricade. Why drag out heavy full boxes when you carry out empty ones then fill them with the dirt you are digging up anyway.

An excellent observation and point that makes sense 99% of the time, but the stuff they were fighting moved readily over or through dirt. Doing as you say wouldn't have slowed them.

Obviously they move faster over the surface then below it or they would have tunneled under the crates quickly. Instead they tried to go over the crates and by digging a moat they effectively increased it's height compared to the stalks.

I'll buy that theory as it makes a lot more sense than other possible scenarios. Do they have some means of stacking crates three high that have been filled with dirt? Would that hover-kino contraption do the trick? I guess the robot might be of some help and maybe they didn't show it for budget reasons, so perhaps it is all solved. Shame to lose those crates, though.

Very dull.

I thought the producers of SGU wanted to do something different? That's what the show's defenders always say when people complain about it's different or it's "not Stargate". Cranking out an episode like this that has a bunch of dream sequences, flashbacks, or hallucinations to cover up the fact that you've only got a 15 minute story is kind of old hat for sci-fi though. I've seen it countless times on various iterations of Star Trek, Stargate, and various other shows; hell even Firefly managed to pull one of these in its short run. You know that all the tension they're trying to build will be defused in the last 5 minutes which makes it even more boring.

It's even worse waiting an extra month to see the show to get a dull episode like this one, though that's not the writers' fault.

I didn't think this episode was that bad, but I guess I'm more patient than most folks. Not every episode has to further the over-plot, IMO.

I was at my parents' house this weekend for Thanksgiving where they actually got SyFy and I noticed they were advertising SGU pretty frequently (I averted my eyes whenever they came on because I'm still 4 episodes behind due to Hulu's schedule). Not only that, but they aired season 1 episode 1 on Fox yesterday. I'm hoping those are good signs that they'll keep the show alive. I like it, and would hate to see it canceled like Caprica.
