I have a PC playing a Winter Eladrin Glamor Bard. Current stats - S8 D14 C16 I8 W13 CH20 with Gift of the Chromatic Dragon and Shadow Touched (Inflict Wounds) feats. Rest of the party is a Giant Barbarian, Forge Cleric and Dwarf Scribes Wizard.
She was intended to be a pure caster who never used weapons, however a few bits of magic and boons she picked up changed her mind on this. Now I want something to be able to melee and I am thinking of these two spells. TOG has the advantage of giving a fly ability, a couple of immunities, letting her use her Charisma for attacks and a better AC. Tensors lasts longer, does an extra 2d12 per round, but she would need to use a dex weapon and dexterity for attack and damage, but would have advantage on those attacks. TOG also is a bonus action, but this is not really better as she will usually be activating Unbreakable Majesty at the same time. TT gives 50 temp hit points, but again she already gets temp hit points most rounds as a bonus action through Mantle of Inspiration so this is not huge.
She would still be mostly a caster, this would be a situational capability.
Here are some abilities/items she has that is driving me to give her a melee option:
1. She has something called Rage Gauntlets. When she makes an attack she can activate the Rage. While in the Rage she is immune to Charm and frightened, she can't cast spells (but can continue concentration). If she hits with a melee attack while enraged she can use a spell slot to do 1d6 necrotic damage per level of the slot, so kind of like a weakened necrotic smite.
2. She has a captured soul that is in a phalactery that lets her turn a miss on a melee weapon attack that misses into a hit once per short rest.
3. She has an ability called Hells Fury. If she takes damage she can activate the Fury. The Fury adds +4 to damage with melee weapon attacks and she can make a reaction attack any time she is damaged.
Looking at numbers a vicous Maul with TOG would do 34 DPR with a +10 attack roll (not including the Rage Guantlet damage or reaction attacks), a vicious Rapier with TT would do 50 DPR with a +7 attack roll with advantage (again not including Rage Guantlet damage or reaction attacks)
