The Breaking of Gavar IC Thread: Chapter 1: The Search for Helmdos

"I just had a thought... the rats said... and I quote,

"The four at meal and guarding the room with the shiny stone door are Those Who Are Not."
."

"Does this mean these people at meal and the one guard at the door aren't human??? If so what are they???" Marcus asks.....

*Marcus turns to the rats*

"I want to be clear before we go in please.... how many do you think are a threat to us???"

"I just had another thought.. They could be Those who are not VISIBLE.. I've heard of mages who can make people invisible. That wouldn't fool these guys, though" Arin gestures to the rats "Because they could smell them." She then turns to address the rats. "So, what are these 'ones who are not'? Are they 'not human'? 'Not visible'? 'not a threat'?"

The rats speak.

"There are four who Are Not. One is in this room. Three more sit in another room, found at the end of a tunnel. The ones who are not are the ones who took the human you seek, and that human is with five others in the room with the shiny stone door. All within that room are weak like newborn litter mates."

"The four who are not look like men. They do not smell like men. Not to us."

"Their hides. They can look like whatever they wish to."

OOC- I just had some things I wanted to mention about rules I use.

For critical hits, I do all the numbers and modifiers, come up with the total, then multiply that by its crit multiplier. I don't roll any extra dice or anything like. So for a battleaxe, rather than roll 3d8, I just roll the d8 and multiply it by 3.

As for enchanted weapons and armour, in my games a weapon can a) have a cool enhancement without a +. Thus a longsword can be a flaming longsword without being a +1 flaming longsword, and b) can have charges. So you could find a +1 longsword that has 10 charges, and you must spend one to activate the bonus.

I have heard tales as a kid about men who could shed their skin and return to there beastial form, what do they smell like to you"

Ashe begins to look restlesly towards the path leading toward the door.

"We do not know what you speak of. These creatures do not smell like animals. They smell like men, but unlike men."

"They are like men, but not like men. Their skins are not always their own, but their form is ever the same."

"Hmm, everyone here would know of dopplegangers wouldn't they? Creatures who can assume the form of people and pretend to be them, they could potentially be men who are not." Saxon asks.

"Now I know this may seem kind of silly... but why don't why try the door knob first.... it's been my experience that doors I kick in can usually just be opened by turning the knob..." Marcus says jokingly...
