The fighter and the paladin pretty well ganged up on the knight & stole his stuff

I guess stealing ideas from books is okay, but from video games is bad?

Moving way from 1e D&D is, in my opinion, Good. Because while Gygax had some good ideas... I wouldn't play a game with him, to put it mildly.

D&D, to non-D&D fans, is a verbal video game. Come on, folks. The system revolves around killing monsters and taking their stuff. It is a wargame. Let's not get high and mighty.

The "Per-Encounter" ability is not "Video-game-lite"; it's to immediately address the issue of the Wizard starting the day at 8:00am and then blowing his magical wad and then at 10am spending 8 hours of rest because his big boom spells are gone. If it were Video-game light, the wizard could just drink a potion to get his big boom spells back.

Notice that this line of discussion killed the original thread. Godwinned, indeed.

You can refer to me with whatever "geek" term you want, Im used to these types of posts at ENworld. You are either bandwagon material around here or you're not it would seem.

I'm curious. If you have such problems with ENWorld, why are you posting here? It's not as if you're adding anything constructive to the discussion about 4e, so wouldn't you just be happier posting elsewhere about things you have positive feelings about?

I dont have problems posting here I like D&D just as much as the next guy. I didnt need to be "godwinned" either for having a differing opinion. Forums are areas for various views at any subject. I had a wrong view to many here and got labeled. This is typical if you read alot of threads at ENworld (at least till mods straighten things). I may not post here alot but I come to this place daily to see what fellow gamers talk about.

If you want me out of here, you should just come out and say it instead of wording things differently.

As for not adding anything constructive to this thread... I just had an opinion about comparing the topic to some elements of WoW.

If the 4E forum is only for positive comments or only for Pro-4E, then maybe you should label this forum as such. I wouldnt even look into this forum that way as my opinions of 4E dont fit the mold.

Late edit: NM, you are probably right, Im not sure why Im here either.

"simple" does not necessarily mean "simplistic" it can also mean "efficient" and "reliable." If a game mechanic works -- however you define "work" -- I don't care if it came from the designers, a widely-adopted house rule or an MMO.

I have to agree with you here. It's like we say at work:
K.I.S.S. = Keep It Simple Stupid; or
Use the right tool for the right job; or
If it isn't broken, don't fix it (3.5 is IMO broken in many areas. Others work well); or
Use what works best and get rid of what doesn't; and
There's no such thing as stupid questions, only stupid people :p

I don't think that the comparisons of 4E to WoW are particularly useful. If you go in specifically looking for things, of course you can find some similarities.

4E will have levels - WoW has levels.
4E will have hit points - WoW has hit points.

Et cetera.

I think the important question isn't "Will 4E share some concepts/ideas with WoW," it's "Will 4E be a good, fun game system, whether or not it shares some concepts/ideas with WoW." Much more useful to discuss that, IMO.
