In Michigan it wasn't uncommon for rain to come down so hard that it was more like solid streams with a break here and there than drops, and thick enough that you couldn't see through it. If the wind was hard, sticking your hand into it would sting like the dickens and leave a red welt on your hand.

Heh. Having grown up in the other side near Windsor, I do know what you mean.

Now imagine that rain non-stop for about three days. A day or so of light rain then another three days.

For about a month.

There’s a reason the mountains fall down here.

Look, if all inns are "inns between worlds," it's not special or interesting any more. I am confident you can make a stationary inn interesting.
Recently Nintendo released Golden Sun and Golden Sun 2 (which are really two parts of a single game) on their Gameboy Advance Live recently. The Golden Sun games are consummate 16-bit RPGs, complete with copious use of Broken Bridges (in some cases quite literal). Uniquely, the games also feature psychic powers that you can use out of battle and in towns. This includes the ability to read peoples' minds. It's required to be used like once or twice to advance the plot, but it's a fun bit of side content most of the time.

So, whenever you reach a new town you can't reach the next town until you solve that town's Broken Bridge. It's almost always some sort of road closure. Every Innkeeper you talk to in the game gives the same sob story as the rest of the townsfolk about how terrible it is that the Bridge is Out (or the Road is Closed or whatever). But, without fail, every time you read their mind they're always thinking about how awesome it is that the road is out and their guests are all trapped there forever and they'll be filthy rich. Which is not how any of this would actually work but it's a fun little running gag throughout the game. Also yes, once you solve the Broken Bridge everyone's happy again but the innkeepers are secretly sulking.

So what I'm saying is, you're right, you can do interesting things with inns.

That's a weird assessment of the weather in Québec. We have four seasons. Snow doesn't start until December. The last snowfall is in March or the beginning of April.

Sounds like you live in northern Quebec in Rouyn-Noranda or on the Côte-Nord.
Nha, I live in Québec. Its not an assessment, its a joke to point that our winters seem endless. Nothing more.

You are officially too old to be contrary for its own sake.
