For the past hour, he meditated upon the single spell that laid imprisoned inside his thoughts. Unfortunately for Maruial, Detect Magic was more or less a "beginner's" spell, but at the moment it posed as his opus, his life's work as an apprentice.

He broke his concentration as he watched Lidia's eyes sporadically scan the low ceiling. For the time being, Maruial stood beside her and Stubbs, the latter being one he wished to avoid conversation with for the time being. Some of those dwarves, they just never took kindly to a pointy-eared friend...

"The eldest of our woods says that putting too much energy into thoughts can cause them to be given life," Maruial whispered as an aside to Lidia.
"Leaving your mind focused on one problem leaves you exposed to greater issues. If anything, you should watch the path ahead lest you bump your head."

As he marched forward, Maruial refastened his shield's strap on his left arm. As silly as it was to be watching the ceiling, it did always pay off to be prepared for the unexpected when it happened.

OOC: So, uh, who does the party consist of at this point? And who's carrying the torches?

Turthain moves up behind Maruial, testing the pull of his longbow as he walks. A longsword is belted to the elf's waist, and his chainmail is visible beneath his clothing. A long, emerald-hued cloak hangs across Turthain's back, and his black mask is pulled up over his mouth and nose...a ward against the dustiness of the mine tunnels.

His voice is low as he speaks, almost a whisper. "Where to now?"

Spell prepared: Spider Climb

Amirad smiles and nods at Maurials comment. To Turthain he says, in a hushed but carrying voice, "Sometimes your so quiet I nearly forget your here."

He turns and faces the only passage out of the chamber with the lift, "At this point there is only one straight course, to move forward and continue our quest laid out by the good Dolun Thrax. Despite our misgivings that this mine is not as he suggested." Amirad is referring to the opinion voiced by some that the wealthy Dwarf's 'mine' is not for diamonds and may instead be the attempted excavation of some sort of tomb.

Amirad can't quite resist the urge to make a speech. "We were well met indeed in the Bouncing Beholder Tavern. Surprised I was to meet not only my cousin, Austin but so many honorable and like minded companions. The first level of this mine is clear of both foul rats, skeletons and the unfortunate corpse of Doldan of the Old School. Together, with the power of Solinar guiding my sword and Austin's mace," here he clasps his cousins shoulder warmly, "Sargeant Stubbs Silverhammer's steadfast resolve," he nods respectfully to the dwarf, "Zhantain's sharp eye and sharper blade," he clasps the the man's wrist in a warrior's grip, "the Lady Lidia's wisdom, courage and spells," here he gives the druidess, his former traveling companion a short but courteous bow, "and with our learned mages from the old school, Mauriales and Turthain spells and blades." He respectfully loweres his head to the two elves. "Together our company shall rid this mine of the foul taint of undead! This second upper level is but the second step on this just quest. Together my friends, we have fought with honor and I am pleased to be counted amoung your company. And now," here the Paladin draws his sword and lets it flash briefly in the lantern-light, "with Solinar's Blessing, shall we see what awaits?"

Amirad turns dramatically to lead the way up the passage.

Austin shakes his head at the dramatics of his cousin, but the smile on his face says he is not displeased.
