Thrane game - kicking around ideas

drothgery

First Post
I'm considerring starting an Eberron PBP game which would be a bit out of the ordinary, so I figured I'd bug the potential player pool and see if there was interest in the general idea, and if I could work out a few things that I haven't settled yet.

The initial set up is that a group of experienced adventurers (probably 7th level, and most/all of them should have worked with each other before) have agreed to undertake some sort of mission on behalf of a rural theocrat (or rather, an eccentric cleric/aristocrat who was made theocrat of a remote region mostly to get him out of the way; his parents sent him to the church for the same reason), so PCs would have to be the kind of people who are happy to work for the Church of the Silver Flame (good or lawful neutral characters would be required).

What I'm wondering about
- Ideas for any overarching plot; I wouldn't want to develop too much of one in advance, but I'd like there to be some sort of large goal for the PCs
- Good mid-level adventurers that could be dropped into the region near the Thrane/Karrnath border (especially if they're especially approriate for a PBP game and/or a strongly Good-aligned party)
- How interested people would be in such a game (note: this is not a recruiting thread)

I'm thinking all that's needed is Eberron and recruiting in the thread name and you'll have a game

Excuse my ignorence but whats special about Thrane, what's the interest in ti?

What's special about Thrane is that the Church of the Silver Flame runs the country. It's a good place to base a game if you're trying to draw people who like clerics and paladins, battling supernatural forces of evil and figuring out how to expose corrupt theocrats.

Also, I'm playing in a somewhat more conventional, Sharn-based Eberron tabletop game (where the characters are much more mercenary than I'm looking for here), and I want to do something different.

Ah! I love those guys! Earlier this year I played in a church of the silver flame campain on these very boards

Though it didn't get far
and we we're crazy zealots

Other than that I'd like to declare my interest

Ah the fun of the silver flame... i'll toss my name in the ring... but since i'm exhausted I'll hold off on long comments till tomorrow.

I have a few ideas.

PCs are members of the Argentum (see "Five Nations") who try and identify and then steal powerful magic items across Khorvaire. This is probably a 7th-10th level campaign as important magic items probably have powerful protectors. This could be run kind of like an "Ocean's 11" game (or any of the other "crime of the century" kind of movies) with lots of espionage and planning.

Players are employed the the Thrane government to track down members of the "Whispering Flame" (see "Five Nations") who have infiltrated the church and the government.

These aren't very developed as of yet, but it's still early :)

Another idea (That could easily work with the Argentum idea) is that something ultimately takes us to investigate things in the Demon Wastes: ultimately bringing together the two estranged halves of Silver Flame worshippers: The Tribes of the DW, and Thrane.

However this works out, I'd be interested.

I think I'd end up tweaking the mission of the Argentum a little if I tied the PCs to it; it would be focused on unclaimed magic items and those in the possession of enemies of Thrane and/or the Silver Flame (though the LN director of the organization might define both somewhat more broadly than Jaela Daran would), rather than collecting things from just anyone.

One other thing - for those of you who've played in Eberron PBP games before, did anyone come up with a good way to adjucate action points? I can't see PM'ing people in the middle of rolling up combats and asking them if they want to spend an action point..
