TURTLEDOME!: Battle Bone (DM: KenHood, Judge: Lord S.)

Finnian cooly observes from a slight distance and then lets another pair of arrows fly.

Twin Strike (1d20+4=17, 1d8+2=10, 1d20+4=23, 1d8+2=4)

After the arrows are on their way, Finnian drops his bow, unsheathes his longsword and pulls the dagger from his belt, ready for what may come next.

[sblock=OOC: Twin Strike]You don't get to apply ability-based damage bonuses to your attacks with Twin Strike. Your arrows just inflict 1d8, not 1d8+2.[/sblock]

Round 3...
Finnian pops two arrows into Cousin Eustace, then draws his weapons, ready for whatever the future brings.

But...

It looks like the future wants to bring Cousin Eustace to the ground.

The halfling staggers, yanking one arrow from his thigh and the other from his shoulder. He coughs, going to his knees.

He struggles to stand, but cannot.

Seeing that consciousness is about to abandon him for greener pastures of self-awareness, Cousin Eustace activates his last ditch power...

FINAL NUT-CRACKER!

As his body falls, the one-armed warrior drives his tiny fist of fury into Hadarai's potential descendents. But the halfling is weak and Hadarai's hide armor is strong. The attack fails.

Cousin Eustace falls the ground. Dead.

Drivan looks at Finnian with a look of shock and outrage... "You killed him? You were supposed to disable him, not kill him!" Drivan runs to the halfling's body, checking the body for any signs of life.

[sblock=OOC]Would this be a heal check or insight? What check would I roll to see if he is faking? :-p If he is dead do we need to check our alignment, because right now I feel pretty evil... Mwuhahahaa... ha...[/sblock]

I'm just messing with you.

He's not dead. Just unconscious.

FIGHT ENDS!
XP: 500 (100 per party member)

All party members may add the following ACCOMPLISHMENT to their character sheets...
Defeated Cousin Eustace
You beat an elderly cripple senseless. Good for you.
Benefit: You gain a +2 bonus to Diplomacy and Intimidation checks against members of the Feather Falls adventurer's retirement community of Daunton.

Hadarai and Emral may add the following single-use special power...
Take It Like A Man!
It doesn't hurt as much as what Cousin Eustace did to you.
Benefit: You can ignore a single daze or stun effect. (Once you use this 'power', it vanishes. You may only use this 'power' in a KenHood adventure.)

---

The people in the crowd cheer and guffaw. Some express shock that a bunch of thugs can attack an elderly man in the light of day on his own lawn without expectation of consequences. Others say the old fart had it coming. Still others express dismay that they lost so much money on a bet or joy from the reception of another's hard-earned gold.

"You beat him? You beat him!" Marco says in wonder, "Did you know that after the dragon burnt off his arm, Cousin Eustace killed it with his bare hand? You are amazing!"

---

[sblock=OOC]It's going to be a little while before Cousin Eustace revives enough to show you the location of the sword. If you have any little things to do, such as talking to the crowd or spending those Healing Surges, now is the time to do it. You've also reached a milestone, since this counts as a second encounter (i.e. +1 AP for each of you).

This is what it's gonna be like folks. I'm going to 'cheat' on the powers of monsters (like I did with Eustace) and have all-sorts of rules-bending weirdness. It will probably give some of the judges conniption fits, but it's all in the name of fun. (Don't worry, judges. I'll keep it contained to this thread.) If you're not enjoying it or it gets you bent out of shape, you can bow out now, if you wish. No hard feelings.

If you stay, I promise you more of the same. ;)[/sblock]

Emral saunters confidently (read: sucks it up while limping forward, trying to look tough) and clears his throat while addressing the crowd. Doing this he uses magic to make his voice carry over the crowd.

YOU LIKE WHAT YOU SEE?! WELL, YOU'RE GONNA SEE ALL THIS AND MORE WHEN I AND MY PALS TEAR THROUGH THE TURTLEDOME! AFEW DAYS FROM NOW! WE'RE GONNA RIP THE ARENA A NEW ONE! WE'RE GONNA BLOW THROUGH AN ARMY, AN EN-TI-ER ARMY, OF SKELETONS! BRING YOUR MONEY FOLKS, IT'S GONNA BE WIIIIIIIIIIILLLLLD

with that Emral starts throwing flaming bursts into the air above him, coloring them purple and green and orange. (p-chew, p-chew!)

[sblock=team name?] so are we gonna think of a wrestling team name for ourselves for the match?

I throw out to you (with no personal stake) the Bone Crushers, or Bone Blasters, or ...the Wild Machines (despite nothing like that in our ensemble's abilities).

also: the Judges still havn't approved Emral. I've email them, and PM'd one of them directly, and still nothing. This after making all changes they'd listed. :.-([/sblock]

Drivan realizes that the old halfling is simply unconcious and not actually dead, he glances at Finnian sheepishly and mutters an apology, "My bad..."

He then turns to the gathered crowd and bows, "If you liked what you saw here then be sure to come and see us at ... THE TURTLEDOME! We'll be there in 3 days and will be facing the dreaded LEGION OF BONE."

[sblock=Actions]Drivan spends a healing surge.[/sblock]

[sblock=OOC]Kenhood, I love the crazy rule-bending monsters. I was just reading a thread where a DM was complaining about a lvl 9 black dragon lurker not being tough enough for his group… Everyone kept telling him that he was the DM and so maybe he should have fixed things… I like how you adapted the old Halfling to be a challenge but not completely incapacitate the entire group. Look forward to the rest of the adventure![/sblock]

[sblock='KenHood']You know, this kinda makes me excited for the rats fight. What kind of crazy stuff with they do? I'm totally in![/sblock]

Vaunea finally gains back her eyesight. After noticing the halfling laying on the floor, she turns to the crowd and throws up her arms, and with her axe firmly overhead states "You like. You want more. More kill. See Vaunea fight TURTLEDOME! soon. Beat skeletons!" And with that, she screams out "FIGHT!!!!!" while once again looking intimidating.

[sblock='Intimidate']1d20+5->7[/sblock]
[sblock='OOC']You know, I am getting some really low rolls here. Hopefully it will turn around again, soon, and I can get one roll over a 12.[/sblock]

As she looks around the crowd, she notices that not many people have paid attention to her scream. Obviously, the do not know a strong warrior when they see one!

Finnian drops his weapons next to the bow and walks towards Cousin Eustace. He whistles to Erlai and motions towards the pile of belongings on the lawn. With a short screech, the hawk leaps from the tree where he had perched after Eustace's fall and glides down to land next to the bow, overlooking Finnian's gear with a predator's watchful gaze.

Finnian removes the arrow from Cousin Eustace's clutched hand, sets it aside, and looks over the wounds. He takes a couple shredded pieces from his damaged and sliced clothing and carefully tries to bind the wounds.

Heal check (1d20+7=15)

Looking over his opponent, Finnian decides he has done what he can and walks over to Marco.

Eustace fought well, if a bit dirty. <ahem> I'd still like to know how he threw Vana around like that. Quite a feat, especially with one arm. Quite good, really. Well, and thanks for the test and such. Still woulda liked to keep it a bit cleaner, but maybe things are different here in Daunton. Haven't been to the city much. Well, never before the other week, really. But you see, it's...

Finnian just lets the last sentence trail off. He stares for a moment and then quickly shakes Marco's hand with a nod of his head and then turns back to gather his things off the lawn.

Erlai launches himself into the air and swirls around and around Finnian's head. He feints and pretends to jab at the hawk, who deftly twirls away and comes back at him again, only to break off at the last moment. When they both tire of this little play, Erlai swoops down and glides to a smooth stop on Finnian's outstretched arm.

Finnian walks over to Vaunea and pats her on the shoulder, and then takes a moment to visit each of his new companions and give a friendly punch on the shoulder or a slap on the back.

As the others work the crowd, Finnian joins in and says,

The greatest show you've ever seen! I've won a few fights in the fair back home, but you'll never get a fight like the one at the TURTLEDOME!

Finnian moves to an open spot and removes his longsword and scabbard from his back and with a deft turn, throws it into the air. Just as it reaches the peak of its arc, Erlai grabs the scabbard, letting the sword fall free back towards Finnian...

Acrobatics Check (1d20+7=9)

Finnian's hand darts out to grab the falling sword, only to wrap his palm around the blade, slicing himself badly. Quickly hiding the wince of pain, he flips the sword around and grabs the proper end and holds the sword over his head for the crowd.

Intimidate (1d20+1=2)

The whole effect of Finnian holding the sword uncomfortably above his head, while shifting in obvious pain from the cut on his hand as blood drops down onto his face is perhaps not the scene of the fierce gladiator that he had desired. After a moment, of trying to put on a good show, Finnian can't keep up the display any longer and drops the sword... right onto his toe. Now dancing around holding his sword hand and hopping on one foot and quietly cursing at the pain, the crowd erupts in laughter at the comical scene of the country boy who is now more clown than crusader.

Above the laughter, you can almost hear, I knew I should've stuck with the dagger...

[sblock=OOC]Great fun so far. Looking forward to the rest of the adventure[/sblock]
