TURTLEDOME!: Battle Bone (DM: KenHood, Judge: Lord S.)

[sblock='OOC']So, is this a Large Broadsword, like Vaunea's size? Or just a large broadsword for effect?[/sblock]

Having sheethed her axe, Vaunea follows the halfling into his house. "Nice sword. You wield that? You strong short man. Vaunea like you. Tell Vaunea stories sometime." And with that, Vaunea steps forward and gently picks the sword up from beneath the trophy.

1d20+9=29 Alright, so the name of the daughter of the weaponsmith who forged the blade was...?
Hah.

You sense a fluctuating magical aura about the sword, as if was once an extremely potent weapon, but suffered some fundamental damage.[/sblock]

It's a big broadsword. Not a Large--capital 'L'--broadsword.[/sblock]

Cousin Eustace launches into an explanation. Marco translates.

"It is called the Sword of Five Elements. It used to be a very powerful weapon, but it's never worked the same since the dragon burned it--when it took my cousin's arm. Though it is no longer what it was once, it still retains a great measure of potency."

Marco pauses and beams at Cousin Eustace for a moment, adding his own comment, "Much like my cousin."

You can tell by the look they share there is some genuine affection in this family.

Cousin Eustace again speaks. "Traet't'raet'ngaeth'haelutufmaehus."

"My cousin urges you to use the sword to its fullest abilities and handle it with respect. Now it is time for us to leave."

Marco gestures towards the door.

Emral rubs his hands. Ooooooooooooooooohhhh! Eustice, that's fantastic! Makes me wish I was a Swordmage! We'll treat it with the utmost care.

Emral is ready to leave, and to find a place to rest up before fighting rats (or going to the Arena, whichever is better for our DM).

"Vaunea no need sword." She walks over to where Hadarai is standing and hands it to him "Take sword. Go kill rats! Then rest. Vaunea ready for more fight."

[sblock=ooc]Hadarai doesn't really benefit much from a big weapon: he's a shield user, and anyway, he'll be using your melee attack as much as possible (via Commander's strike). Vaunea should really take the broadsword. It will enhance her to-hit and damage, and she can wield it no-problem.[/sblock]

[sblock=OOC]Do y'all have anything y'all want to do at this location? If not, I can move the story to a new locale: rats or prep for Arena? Your choice.[/sblock]

[sblock=OOC]I'm happy to go with either direction. The little vignettes / side adventures are entertaining. Besides, it gives Finnian more chances to fumble so I can write stupid hawk tricks that go wrong :)[/sblock]

[sblock=ooc]I vote rats. We'll get a prize at the end, another chance to hone our skills fighting as a team... and if we set fire to the city, well, we can try to compete with that other party you lot mentioned set fire to Daunton

The Sword: if it's a Broadsword, it's one-handed. You're thinking Bastard or Greatsword for two-handed. It's versatile, but it's still d10 damage. Adventurer's vault. ...and let me tell you, d10 is waaaay better than 2d4 from 2e AD&D! I had a fighter with 18-00 Str and these drow bracers of blinding strike, so by 8th level (with specialization) I had 4 attacks, and could pull off, like, 48 damage with one a round. Still, on average 4 a round is less than 5 a round +str, + whatever this sword is. ...but I digress (and yeah, but I'm not *that* old).

So yeah, Hadarai can still use it. Two-handed only nets +1 damage. You can still sword-and-board just fine. Maybe better this way?

I'm a bit leary about rolling a 5 on the damage type. So if we fight corporeal creatures, theres a chance our hit won't hit them? Yeesh! Now I know why Eustice lost his arm!!!
Oh well, I guess Hadarai has two to start with; another one when he loses the first?[/sblock]

[sblock=ooc]Oh yeah it's a one-hander, I got confused. Well in this case, Finnian should take it. As I said, it's not Hadarai that's the damage dealer of the party, so there's no meaning in him having a weapon with the same accuracy and better damage.
(Btw incorporeal creatures take half damage from normal attacks)
I vote for the rats too.[/sblock]
