TURTLEDOME!: Battle Bone (DM: KenHood, Judge: Lord S.)

Finnian tumbles onto the papier mache slope inside Swillwort's head.

OOC: I need marching order, weapon status, etc.

[sblock=Vaunea's Perception Check]You hear something scurrying away up ahead. It sounds like paper crumpling. And you can hear profanity, probably coming from that thing, but it's getting farther away.[/sblock]

[sblock=Glass Ball and Light]Yep. It would cost a move action each time you wished to move the glowing ball, and each round, you'd have to spend a minor action to sustain the Mage Hand.

Since Light requires a minor action, it would cost less actions to recast the cantrip each time you move.[/sblock]

"Vaunea hear noise. Crunch sounds. Faster than Vaunea."

Vaunea makes sure to keep the lead as the group heads farther into the canal towards the noise.

[sblock='Marching Order']I would prefer to be in the front by myself, with the rest of the group at least one square behind me. This way, I can attempt to charge with my horns at the start of the battle, if there is a battle, and can start marking things to stop them from getting to you four.[/sblock]

[sblock=ooc] Wooow. Following the conversation really makes me think that a lot of posters just don't understand the *game* aspect of role-playing games. I mean, out of hand throwing out an overhaul because a hypothetical player (naming no names, as none were named) might overpower their pbp character? The concept sounds great, but the idea that *one* overhaul per character before they level up would be too huge is stupifyingly absurd. Every character is not going to do this, just as not every one of them is in play right now. Heck, if we can retire a character and start a new one, wouldn't it be the same amount of work for the Judges? Or more, in fact, as the new character would get any overhauls *and* all the levelling up they would otherwise have done? Technically, every level up and every re-training of skills must be approved by the judges. By allowing a 1st level Overhaul before reaching 2nd level (in this case at the end of the adventure), the new version would be 2nd level and would no longer have an Overhaul coming. That's one less level to check, and no more overhauls; all other re-training would be standard-issue.
Allowing one overhaul reduces Judge work.

Emral was designed based on an M&M character I have. Not only that, but I don't particularly care about the XP (well, I'd like it when it shows up), I just don't want to re-adventure him and go through the last month or so as though it didn't happen. Would "they" (not just judges, but those magical non-judges "with a conscience") mind if I swapped his stats out for new ones, effectively retiring the old stats, and just kept playing with this adventure?
[/sblock]

Emral hobbles along after the others, lighting up the end of his staff with a mote of flame. He shuffles up to the middle of the group, (hopefully) defended on all sides by the Warlord, the Minotaur, the Wizard Drivan, and (hopefully) the Beastmaster.

[sblock=Our names are cool]Going over the names and concepts, this is a really cool group. We rock, guys![/sblock]

[sblock=Emral: Overhaul]You'll have to take that up with the judges. I want to focus on our adventure.[/sblock]
The light fails to illuminate a ceiling above your party. It appears you stand on an open plain underneath a black, empty sky.

The ground has the texture and scent of papier mache. It is crumpled and irregular, sloping downwards as it progresses away from the ear.

Under the wizards' light, you can see that the ground is made from tiny, torn bits of paper. They bear fragmented texts in a variety of languages and scraps of illustrations.

As the party continues forward, you hear a distant sound, like a gigantic piece of paper folding. It occurs for only an instant. Afterwards, you can no longer hear the scurrying or muttered profanity.

[sblock=Position]I'll take up the last position then since it sounds like Emral is in the middle of us all. Is that the plan? a sort of circle?[/sblock]

Drivan moves the light to Vaunea's shield...

"Let's get moving forward!"

Finnian stops a moment at the opening that he tumbled through and whistles for Erlai to come, hoping the bird will understand what has happened. He then moves alongside Emral to Vaunea's right and draws his sword and dagger, looking around their surroundings with some trepidation.

I never should've left the village

Perception Check (1d20+2=10)

[sblock=OOC]I forgot about taking Erlai with me when I went in. Hopefully I won't be the Paladin with warhorse foiled by the ladder in the dungeon ;)[/sblock]

An earthquake!

The entire world shakes.

You hear Erlai's cry, as he attacks the old man's head.

[sblock=Finnian's Perception Check]Vaunea wears scale mail.[/sblock]

Hawks don't have eyebrows, yet by Herculean effort, Erlai manages to raise his eyebrows in surprise and confusion. He flies around Swillwort's head several times, distrusting the sudden appearance of his master's arm out of the old man's ear. After a moment's careful consideration--noticing that Finnian dangles a meat treat from his fingers--the hawk lands.

The ranger retrieves his beast.
