Tweaking rogue & Cleric for Heavy combat Campaign

I am a bit curious on why he doesn't like Sneak Attack? If there are no rogue in the campaing will all of a sudden only 10-15% of the monster be immune to sneak attack or he will keep sending you zombies and squeletons until you reach higher level?

Try Cleric/rogue/shadowdancer/contemplative? mix

make sure you get the celerity domain. Put a load of points in hide and move silently and 1 point in each other rogue skill at least. then you can "buff "your skills by 10 with the spell Wieldskill duration 1 min per level.

take the Contempative ( i think) to gain the celerity domain, you get +2 dex as a domain skill amongst others.
the shadowdancer for HIPS (though by the sounds of your DM he will disallow HIPS)
clerics are just badasses with all their buffs but even if you get hit by dispell magic you are still able to do things using your rogue skills. I would have gone this route but I only have 8 wisdom :)

edited cos i know squat about clerics really

first, thanks for so many answers.

DM changing isn´t an option(it´s the only dm i know).

The curious thing about the house rule of my dm(no xp for traps) is that sometimes put some very deadly trap that i have to disarm or similar but they don´t give me xp.

I don´t like the rangers cause my liking of rogue class is about his versatility and feeling of a thief or an assassin (i like this PrC but the req of being evil with my ~good party isn´t also an option).

I also had played a paladin, but my dm said if my god give me the spells and the dm is this god(in play) i can´t choose my spells, he give me the spells he wants(i nearly ever find an utility for a lot of bless water spells). So the hose of the rogue class isn´t unique. Maybe is only for me, cause i´m the more experienced player in the group and he wants to put me in hard time. I 've never understand why with random assignment of charges, in 5 fighters 3 go to attack the little rogue 1 the fighter and 1 the cleric.

Another time i´ve played a neutral cleric, that channels negative energy to use the inflict wounds(with another cleric & druid isn´t needed heals) but 5 ghost kill him in 1 round(they were 10 ghost in total :) ). I´ve to say that i´ve to convince him that with a primary spellcaster class the rule of the "GOD" giving me the spells he wants it isn´t very fair.

The melee cleric that you say seems interesting for me, thanks. But Oscar(my name is also oscar ) in what book is the contemplative PrC??, my dm also only let PrC from DMG and Faerun Books, and maybe some of the class books we have(tome and blood, defenders of the faith).. Divine disciple seems very good(why i´ve never seen this PrC???)." instintive attack from VofED" what book is this??. Mainly i´ve searched the list of spells from the PHB, what are the good cleric spells form the other books(they are too many spells for searching).

Without the special rule for rogues of my dm, what will be one good build for a rogue(mainly for combat, but rogues are very good for alot of things), and mainly i will want strategies for combat(or is only about flanking opponents??).

Why they aren´t character builds guides like in some videogames(diablo, dungeon siege...) in some aspects they are very similar of a tweaking of a d&d3 character. And they will be very appreciated for a novice powergamer like me.

I´m very happy for finding this forums, it´s alot of info there.

Thanks in advance.

Your DM sux... :p Sorry! :)

Anyways, make a Barbarian with a HUGE axe, call him Rogue and smash EVERYTHING in your path.
Chest? Sure I can open the lock *SMASH* Trap? Uhm... *SMASH*

Hey, at least you'll have some fun for as long as it lasts! :D

Bye

Wow.

Your situation.....is not good. Find a new DM: Now!

If there was ever an arguement for "no house rules", this guy would be it's poster-child. Good grief.

In a low-gold, low treasure, DM chooses spells for divine casters campaign, there are only a few routes available:

1. Leave the campaign and find another one. It's work but it could hardly be worse. You might be able to find some games or players through the RPGA's Living Campaigns (I know Living Greyhawk has a few players in Spain).

2. Talk your DM into letting you take Vow of Poverty. And play a monk.

3. Clerics are ordinarily a good choice in such campaigns since you can make short-term magic items with your spells. (I wouldn't take contemplative though--1/2 BAB and low HD aren't good for a combat cleric).

4. Play a sorceror. Or play a wizard and take the magic item creation feats. Make yourself a +6 headband of intellect and all of the magic items you want but he won't give your party. (A fighter/wizard character can really shine in a campaign where he can cast Greater Magic Weapon and haste and all of the single-classed fighters are scraping to find masterwork swords or normal fullplate. Fighter 1/Wizard 6/Spellsword 1/Eldritch Knight X is a good build as is Fighter 2/Wizard 4/Spellsword X and Fighter 4/Wizard 2/Bladesinger X)

5. Play a multiclass dwarf fighter/barbarian/rogue mutt. Your AC is going to suck. Learn to live with it. Two levels of barbarian gives you uncanny dodge and rage. Two levels of rogue gives you evasion. Fighter gives you feats and if you level in Occult Slayer (Complete Warrior) and exotic weapon master (Complete Warrior) you can find other good defensive and offensive tricks. Your entire purpose with such a character is to ignore defense (which will never be very good without magic) and to deal as much damage as dwarvishly possible. Power attack, rage, kill, and hope the cleric can heal you enough to keep you alive longer than your foes.

Now we gonna start another campaign, and i wanna make another rogue. My dm doesn´t like traps(they don´t give me xp(dm personal rule)) or sneaking/flanking combats... and 90% of monsters are sneak inmune(dm preference)...

I have read in this forums of a tweaked cleric that can kill in melee more than a fighter,barb.. i´m very interested in that type of build(what feats, spells, equipment).

PD:my dm isn´t very generous with equipment, he doesn´t like uber equiped chars(for ex: my lv 14 rogue has only a rapier +1,leather+2,picks noMW &+2dex gloves)
Your DM has made a bunch of house rules which turn a decent class (rogue) into junk. Your DM obviously has NO IDEA what they are doing.

The key spells for a powerful melee cleric are divine favor, divine power and righteous might. Since your campaign is low magic (as is mine) Magical Vestment and Greater Magic Weapon will also be important. I would suggest picking up the Power Attack feat at some point. Most melee clerics prefer a two-handed weapon (such as greatsword) to maximize power attack. However, the one handed weapon-and-shield style can be powerful defensively by casting magical vestment on both armor and shield, giving you a big AC bonus.

Clerical domains which compliment this build are: strength, destruction, war. Pick 2 of the 3.

Hope this helps.

I´ve convinced my dm to let me choose my divine spells :D. So now Cleric x/Divine disciple 4 seems very good. the argument that says with contemplative i loss HD a BAB seems more important than another domain and some immunities.

I´m still trying to build a viable build for a rogue. i´ve read something about sneak attack works with ray spells(melf acid arrow with sa seems good) so i´m thinking of a rogue 1/wizard 6/archane trickster x will work??.
or maybe a rogue with 2 weap(rapier/shortsword) for flanking with finesse & spring ???
or a rogue 4/fighter 4/some archer PrC ???
or rogue 4 /fighter 4/duelist x??

Is any of the pure or semi-pure Rogue PrC worth ????

About my dm, i´ve to add that he doesn´t like the craft feats cause he says that they are very unrealistic "in a travel from a city to another you can´t build something, and if you stay some days in a city building something your partners may want to do some adventuring while you are crafting so you can´t play the next adventure if you craft this thing", at least he said this before picking a craft feat...
