Warlocks: Second-Rate Vampires?

DM_Matt

First Post
After looking at the Warlock invocations and making some builds, its beginning to look like most of the incantations are duplicates or just weaker versions of vampire abilities, and that even a 20th Level Warlock is both similar to and markedly worse than a 10th Level Vampire Sorceror. Am I wrong here?

Well,

did you ever crossed running water, broke into a buliding, enjoyed a nice walk in the sunshine? Are you repelled by Holy Symbols or dislike the smell of garlic?

I think that the Vampire isn't suited for player charakters, at least not in a neutral to good campaign. The warlock however is...

Since that kind of storys are what most people play i strongly recomend not to compare these classes just by their abilities (besides the flaws of beeing a vampire as noted on top).
Needless to say that Vampieres are mostly used by GM's because of their style and the prejustice with that volks encounters these undead lot. The general advantage of a warlock is (besides the game-terms) that the choise of your behaviour lies in your hand...

I have found they are a class best for a DM's toy to add a little spice for villians.

As for the origin of the class Warlock, you have to watch the series on TV called "Charmed". Having a teenage daughter I have been victim to this series for more then a few eps and you will find Warlocks in the series are exactly like warlocks in CA. Only real difference between the two is Charmed's idea was original and CA is a copy.

Warlocks make great minions of evil especially when combined with Half fiend template.

Ya know, I don't really remember Vampires being all that big on spooting out energy blasts, and conjuring otherworldly naughty tentacles. At least not as part of their inherrant vampire-ness.

I recognize that. I was making those builds for NPC purposes and kept thinking "This is lame, I might as well just use a vampire."
