Honestly, I could see them coming out of Lantan, which has always been the mysterious magitek area of the Realms. Heck, from what little info they've given us (Lantan is by far the least-covered area in all of Faerun, with only a couple of sentences or paragraphs in all the setting books from every edition so far), it would be easy to imagine it as a sort of mini-Eberron...
Heh. A Nimblewright-themed Warforged Swashbuckler from Lantan would be a fun character to play.

I have to admit, I have been playing elves the last few years and I've had a lot more fun than anticipated doing so. I've also been playing more martial characters. Hmmm...

I find the autognome much more "broadly applicable" than the warforged, and even then the autognome is somewhat niche.

The one in my campaign was created by a wizard in Al Qadim to be a bodyguard and accidentally wound up transported to the Sword Coast.

I notice the two species that grant flight at level 1, aarakocra and fairy, arent among anyones favorites.

Maybe flight at level 1 isnt so unbalanced?

By the time of 50e (50th anniversary edition), I wonder if there will be a general consensus of what the prominent species are.
I mean, the top 3 (condensing variants together) have consistently been Human, Half-Elf, and Elf. So if you just want those, the consensus is already clear.

If you're willing to go top 5, it gets a bit murkier, but I'm fairly sure that would have settled on the aforementioned three, Dragonborn, and Tiefling--especially with Fizban's in the equation. Expanding out to top 10, the next few spots tend to vary a lot, but I'm fairly sure Dwarf and Halfling have usually been up there, and I believe Half-orc is usually in the top 10 as well. The last couple vary a lot, but I want to say they tend to shuffle around between gnome, aasimar, firbolg, and...something else, don't recall off the top of my head.

So yeah. I strongly suspect that Dragonborn (if you combine the PHB version and the three Fizban's versions as one block) will very likely rise in popularity but only potentially in ranking, because Elf as a combined lineage is gonna be hard to beat. The most popular 5-man-band party, in terms of races, assuming every player picks a truly unique lineage, will then be Human, Half-Elf, Elf, Dragonborn, and Tiefling, with a Dwarf as the optional 6th Ranger.

Generally, my settings try focus on four species, while upto thirteen species are on the radar.

This local poll suggests the top thirteen species are:

1 elf / half-elf
2 human

3 dwarf

4 gnome
5 warforged
6 halfling

7 orc / half-orc
8 tiefling
9 aasimar
10 dragonborn

11 changeling
12 goliath
13 lizardfolk

Some rankings surprise me, but the result seems appealing.

If gnome and halfling merged into the same species, such as halfling equals a half-gnome, their ranking would be formidable, but, heh, their respective fans seem to hate merging them.

It never was. DMS just keep imagining the nightmare of flying players above a featureless field fighting creatures that lack the brainpower and opposable thumbs to throw rocks and go somewhere that isn't a featureless plain.

I disagree with your pairings of Elf/Half-Elf and Orc/half orc to determine rankings when they were all selected choices. You diminish the choices of those that selected one-half of your pairing and not the other along with those that did not choose either race in a pairing.
