What d20 game hasn't been done [or done right] yet?

I was discussing with a friend yesterday the idea that each gaming genre is a niche, and there will arise a game to fill each of these niches. In many cases, one game will emerge as the favorite.

My question: if I were to quit my job and devote myself to producing a really excellent game or game setting [or even a Polyhedron-style minigame]...what should it be?

Which niches are unfilled? Which are filled, but ripe for a new contender?

Historical Gaming. This niche has actually rarely been filled by anything in gaming, let alone the d20 market. I just blew a bit of bucks on GURPS stuff because they at least of some historical based books. I want more, lots more.

Unasked-for advice. Don't quit your day job to pursue this. It's not a good way to make a lot of money, certainly not quickly.

edit. I'm not saying don't try writing. By all means go for it. Just don't quit your job to do it.

Has anybody made a really good d20 western RPG yet?

There is Sidewinder which isn't too bad. Westerns aren't my forte, so someone more familiar with the genre could offer a better opinion.

Historical gaming in general, or some particular era?

One idea I had kicked around was a Victorian/steampunk setting for d20 Modern. Not a fantasy-plus-steamtech, but a real-world setting more along the lines of League of Extraordinary Gentlemen...protopulp, with everything from faeries to Martians to moreaus to lost worlds to vampires, all out there, waiting to be explored.

A few things that I think would rock -

Black Company d20 - I'm not sure about how to go about getting the rights from Tor Fantasy, as well as Glen Cook, but this series of books would make an amazing d20 setting. I, before, tried to arrange a Black Company d20 fan conversion here on the boards, but it fell through. :(

Anime-Style - Iunno how much of a popular want of this is, but something along the lines of Exalted would be righteous. (Exalted is a White Wolf game) Not so much the high-power, but just the style and thematic of anime set in a fantasy world. For inspirado, see: Princess Monoke, Ninja Scroll, Berserk, and Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust.

GOOD Steampunk - I know Iron Kingdoms might fill this niche, but my steampunk is a little different. It's low, dark, and gritty, with an almost anarchist approach to government. Clothes and weapons are a mish-mash of Victorian era, and fantasy era. You've got magically chained elementals fueling factories, etc.

So, just my thoughts. :D I'll buy these, at least!

Just thinking aloud because I'm at work on a Saturday, Thalmin. Good advice nevertheless.

My $30K of student loans and my loving wife are enough to keep me gainfully employed.

I'm actually planning to run a Mononoke-style session tomorrow, complete with feral druids, giant boars, and a super-sized spirit of the forest. Wish me luck!
